I had to replace my 80GB Hard Drive (???RPM) for my Dell 9300 right after the tech team here helped resolve my long list of Malware and Spyware problems. I have been able to install news 120GB Hard Drive (5400RPM) and re installed my Windows XP Media Edition 2005 with Dell disks, but I have a few issues regarding performance now, I thought without anything on my new Hard Drive that I would be having less issues bogging down. A big issue is I no longer am able to charge my phone and ipod using USB ports - my blackberry gives error message insufficient power - Never had such an issue previously??? I had to search for some missing drivers when my computer first re installed Windows and I'm wondering if I have chosen the wrong drivers? missing needed drivers? or other error???
Please Help!
PS - I know you can solve this as you were so helpful with my previous posts!!! THANKS
Hi,
If you have used the Dell discs to install your OS on a new hard drive then there may be a lot of work ahead for you in updating your systems with all the patches and updates issued since the discs were made.
It might be worthwhile checking for updated drivers (start with Device Manager), but before you do this, make sure your 2 way software firewall is fully operational, your antivirus updated with the latest definitions and that your machine is not connected to the net for anything other than these security measures…certainly no downloading of emails or accessing the net for general purposes should be permitted until this has been completed and Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed.
Service Pack 3 contains some updated drivers that will be particularly relevant to USB support.
Good luck

Is that true even when the laptop is plugged-into it's Power Supply/charger ?
is the OS CD with sp2? or still sp1? (usually dell OS CDs came with sp2 for newer systems) if it's sp1 try updating it usb not working with sp1.
anyway, since the hdd you got is not preloaded then you really need to reinstall the OS and also the necessary drivers. that computer however is not one of the currently shipping systems from dell and so i would say there might be some updated drivers already. try updating some drivers after windows updates.inspiron 9300 drivers.
download and install the following drivers:
Dell Notebook System Software(under system utility)
Intel Mobile Chipset Driver(under chipset)
PCMCIA Controller Driver (under chipset)
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 or NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Video Driver
SigmaTel STAC 9750 Audio Driver
also flash the BIOS just to make sure it's updated(ac adapter and battery should be plugged in to do this)
best of luck
