I have a Samsung SyncMaster 204B. I leave it turned on almost all the time. If i turn the power off to the monitor then turn the power back on the screen will not come on, no matter how long I wait or fiddle with the settings. Now if i reboot the PC it can take 5min+ to get the monitor back on. It's like it is taking forever to warm up or whatever it does. I have no idea why the monitor won't come back on after I powered it off or why does reboot the PC seem to make it work.
Any ideas?
When you power the monitor back on, if it does not see a signal from the computer's graphics system, it will remain asleep until you wake it up by wiggling the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. Are you doing that?
The 204B has a native resolution of 1600 x 1200 - is that the setting you are using?
BTW, I don't the 204B but I do have several Samsungs, including two 2220wm on this PC and a 245B on the wife's PC and they stay on 24/7 too. Well, actually, they go to into standby-mode after 20 minutes of inactivity, but they are still powered on by the switch.
Normally, the first thing I do is eliminate half the hardware from the equation by trying the monitor on another computer, or another monitor on your computer and see if the problem stays with your PC, or moves to the new PC with the monitor.
Oh, and don't forget the obvious - make sure the connections on the back of the computer and the back of the monitor are secure.
