Hi. My computer is running on Windows XP Pro, SP2, Version 2002. Intel Pentium 4 Processer. 1.80GHz. Running at 1.82 GHz, with 512 MB of RAM and a 60 GB hard drive (I think).
My computer quite old, and recently has been experiencing a lot of problems.
1. It takes a very long time to startup, usual more than 5 mins. Recently I have been having to restart the computer a few times before it would run properly. The problems start after I log on to my user account. The wallpaper is there, occasionally there taskbar and desktop icons load up, but other times it doesn't, but either way, the computer freezes up. Task manager can run, that's all it can do. I have to restart it twice, before it runs properly. My computer is also usually lags alot and the CPU Usage fluctuates alot.
2. Symantec anti-virus has constantly detected suspicious processes, the most common being 'Downloader'. It has also detected Infostealer, Backdoor.Rustock.B, and Bloodhound.Exploit.6.
- Downloader is usually cleaned by deletion, a few times just cleaned. But it is usually detected again.
- Backdoor.Rustock.B was detected only once, and was cleaned. Same for Infostealer.
- Bloodhound.Exploit.6 could not be cleaned, and was quarantined.
3. My firefox browser used to crash occasionally, even though I was not on any content heavy pages, just normal html ones.
4. Spybot S&D constanly detects a lot of spyware, the most common one being CoolWWWSearch.WCADW. I fixed the problems every time but this keeps turning up. My most recent search brought up CoolWWWSearch.WCADW (6 Entries), Avenue A, Inc (1), CasaleMedia (1), FastClick (2), MediaPlex (1) and Statcounter (1).
5. I usually use firefox, but sometimes I have to use IE. Recently when I try to do so, the 'cannot find file file:///c:/secure32.html' comes up.
6. My computer starts up in 1024x768 pixels, but after a while, it will automatically change the screen display to 800x600. I always revert it manually to 1024x768, but it still happens the nest time I boot up the computer.
I installed Spybot, ZoneAlarm Pro (Trial), and Windows Defender and TomCoyote advice about 2 weeks ago.
I appreciate it immensely if you guys could help me with these issues.
