My daughter's boyfriends computer was a mess. I emptied the temp internet files and the temp folder, ran spybot, installed SD Resident, ran Adaware, installed AVG Free and did a Houscall scan. The Housecall scan is showing Agent.TQZ, Commandesktop and Memwatcher and will not remove them. The browser is slow and choppy and I had a problem uninstalling programs (I downloaded Revo Uninstaller and removed anything that wasn't working properly). I also couldn't download any of these programs without having to use the alternate dowload method given when your download doesn't start. Here's the Hijack This log. I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MapEDC] C:\Program Files\MapEDC\MapEDC.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NoDNS] C:\Program Files\\NoDNS\\NoDNS.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - {07851C6A-1C43-41d9-8319-BC89154A8C00} - C:\Program Files\RcvSystem\httpdchk.dll

Thanks for helping me. I found some other scans to do since I posted initially and have hopefully removed more bad things. I have followed all of your steps and none of the items you said to delete were there. I uninstalled Spysweeper so if it's showing on the log it shouldn't be there because the program is not on the computer and I have the free version of Adaware so there shouldn't be anything running in the background. I turned off SDTeatimer. Here's the new log.

hi,

looks like you have it taken care of.

you can start hjt and have it "fix" these:

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O23 - Service: AntiVir Service (AntiVirService) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\AVPersonal\AVGUARD.EXE (file missing)
O23 - Service: AntiVir Update (AVWUpSrv) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\AVPersonal\AVWUPSRV.EXE (file missing)
O23 - Service: Webroot Spy Sweeper Engine (svcWRSSSDK) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\WRSSSDK.exe (file missing)

this is foistware:Viewpoint\ installed as a add-on. its not malware. can be removed via the add/remove programs panel. up to you
if all is good, two things to do:

1) your java version may be slightly out of date
2)system restore.

java:
Vulnerabilities/exploits in versions of Sun Java may be responsible for some malware via your browser.
It is important to keep Sun Java up to date and also to remove older versions which may have vulnerabilites/exploits that can be taken advantage of to introduce malware.

* 1. Uninstall old versions of Sun Java via Add/Remove Programs.
* 2. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
* 3. Reboot your PC if prompted.

to check if you have the latest version of Java and to download the latest version:
http://www.java.com/...d/installed.jsp

system restore:

One of the features of Windows ME, XP and Vista is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is a good idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK, then reboot
