Can anyone help me with this problem; the blue screen is encountered and the Title message is displayed followed by STOP:0x0000000A? Various people have suggested overheating CPU and new drivers conflict - but there are no new drivers installed and I don't know how to counter an overhot CPU. Another "expert" suggested I renew the memory - it's all very technical. This happens every time on boot-up and the screen seems a little off-centre, which I thought was very weird. WinXP Home is the O/S, and it's a Dell PC 3 years old. I have had very sound advice on this site before and, if anyone could just point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Kind regards, Declan.
Hi :).

No harm carrying out the below:

  • Please Run the PCPitstop Full Tests, here:
  • Register and create a password.
  • Accept the ActiveX component to allow your machine to run the Full Tests.
  • Registering and accepting the ActiveX are both SAFE and FREE.
  • Full Tests is the first item in the left hand column of that page.
The Full Tests take less than 5 minutes for most machines.
Once you have your Results, please post the TechExpress Link back here into this thread for review.
TechExpress is the last item on the list in the yellow box in upper right area of any Results page.
Post the entire URL link information back here into this Forum thread.

Caution: During the testing of Video Adapter, a variety of patterns, shapes, colors and text are “flashed” onto the users monitor screen. In the many thousands of daily uses of the PCPitstop Full Tests over several years, two individuals who suffer epilepsy experienced discomfort and temporary dizziness when viewing the flashing patterns. If you know that you are susceptible to photo driven seizure, look away from your screen during the Video Adapter testing sequence.

sorry, did I mention that I can only open in Safe Mode?

That's actually good - or at least better than sitting at the BSOD - or nothing.

From Safe Mode you can look in Event Viewer, run Disk Cleanup, run malware scans, run chkdsk, look for errors in Device Manager.
Dakeyras had asked me to run PCPitstop Tests … that's why I mentioned Safe Mode. With regard to your suggestions; what sub-category within Event Viewer would be the most helpful to me? Do I check out Applications, or what in particular. Thank you.

Stop messages / BSOD are always the most troublesome problems to deal with. Mainly because of numerous possible faulties, where the task at hand with finding out which, can be very time-consuming. But most often it involves; Drivers, RAM or conflicting software…..(Lots and lots of possible causes with just those three, if you add general hardware on top of that, one is bound for a headache)

Thank you for your input, and Digerati. You have both left me with plenty to get on with … let me struggle my way through this and update you asap.

Declan.
