Spyware infection

I believe a spyware infection has taken over my computer. The desktop background has turned blue and says "Warning:spyware treat has been detected on your PC. Your computer has several fatal errors due to spyware activity. It is strongly recomended to install an antispyware software to close all security vulnerabilities. Antispyware software helps protect your PC against spyware and other security threats." Clicking on it leads you to "http://livesecuritycenter.com/?aid=444". I also keep get pop ups saying my computer is infected with spyware in my tool bar, they lead to that site too. I can delet the files with the AVG scanner… but my icons flash like my computer is reloading, and the files come back. Please help!!!!!

we will start with this:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - "Search" by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan your computer. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post the log along with a new hjt log.

hi, ok good. time to run step two of the fix which is best done in safe mode. to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. chose the first option from the list: safe mode once at the safe mode desktop: do like before except chose option 2 (clean) of the smitfraudfix: locate the smitfraud icon on the desktop and double click it to start. from the main option menu, chose the second option (clean). after smitfraud runs– disk clean will run, last when asked if you want to clean the registry, select y (yes) then enter. computer will reboot and after the restart produce a log. please save the log somewhere and post the log. post the log and a new hjt log. shelf life

Everything looks good, the pop up's have stopped, I have my background back, and AVG scanners do not find anything. Thank you so much for your help!!!!!!!

ok good. glad to help. two last things. i think your java is slightly out of date. the why to update and how:

Vulnerabilities/exploits in old versions of Sun Java may be partly responsible for some malware attacks via your browser.

It is very important to keep Sun Java up to date but also to remove older versions which may have vulnerabilites/exploits that can be used to introduce malware.

You can check what version you have here:

* 1. Uninstall old versions of Sun Java via Add/Remove Programs.

* 2. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button

* 3. Reboot your PC if prompted.

Download the latest version:

restore point the why and how:

One of the features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is a good idea after malware is removed.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore. (deletes old possibly infected restore point)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.(new restore points on a clean system)
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
