Hi

Congratulations, you appear to be malware free.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [ALUAlert] C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUNotify.exe (User 'SYSTEM')
O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [ALUAlert] C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUNotify.exe (User 'Default user')
O23 - Service: SymWMI Service (SymWSC) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe (file missing)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the x and the /u, it needs to be there.

Here is a free program I recommend

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Here is some great information from experts in this field that will help you stay clean and safe online.
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.
Everything seems to be fine, still seems slow, maybe if there wasn't so many things on start-up it would help……What do you think? I would need help doing it because I don't what any of that stuff is. Remember I said that i couldn't remember the administrator's password? Well, turns out that you don't even need to know it to change it…..
Hi

If you install Winpatrol you will find a utility called Startup Manager when you open it up. You can disable unnecessary programs from starting up automatically. Or you can go to Start>Run and type in msconfig then click on the Startup tab.

Here's a list of what I think are unneeded on your pc.

EngUtil.exe
DrgToDsc.exe
RxMon.exe
qttask.exe
AOLDial.exe
ALCXMNTR.EXE
E_S4I2D1.EXE /P32
NeroCheck.exe
PDVDServ.exe
RealOneMessageCenter.exe
jusched.exe
MotiveSB.exe
InstallHelper.exe
McciTrayApp.exe
realsched.exe
CamTray.exe
imc.exe
NBJ.exe <—-maybe required if you have Nero run scheduled backups
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
Hi Scotty, Just a quick note to thank you for all the help. I uncheck those items from the start menu and it does seem to load faster. I have a question to ask, but I need a little time to put the question together to find out if it could apply to me. I do want you to know how much I appreciate your help and your patience, Thank you Bob Lopez PS….. When I figure out the question, is it ok to check back with you ?
Hello, the question i was gonna ask was about the DSL modem, but a friend of my said that if one port on it worked, then the others should work the same or not work at all. He does electronics for a living. Thank you again for all your help. :notworthy:
