Hi

It would appear that all the bad registry entries have come back into your HijackThis log. Have you done anything that may have restored them si nce you posted your last log?

I believe that it may just be the registry entries and not the malware files themselves, but would still like to check and confirm this.

Please disable Spybot Teatimer again, until after these HijackThis fixes.

Open HijackThis. Hit Do A System Scan Only. Place a check next to the following items (if present):
R3 - URLSearchHook: &Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [antiviirus] C:\Program Files\antiviirus.exe
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} -
O21 - SSODL: UnknownAlrt - {21e404ba-d15a-46cf-b1b1-0645e2d27e33} - (no file)
O21 - SSODL: zip - {c334a2f6-3a03-4f78-ae2a-53f1cc57b6c1} - (no file)

Close all browsers and windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Please have a look on your system for this file:
C:\Program Files\antiviirus.exe << FILE
and delete it if you find it. Do not worry if it isn't there.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your reply.
I don't think we will have to go through all those processes again, I just want to make sure nothing else has come back, and also find out why these did.

Thanks.
I have installed turbotax to work on my taxes and downloaded updates. I have also begun visiting my banking site. I have not downloaded anything from the internet or changed any settings. The only odd behavior I've noticed is that I am getting more spam type e-mails for medications and one for "dating". I blocked the senders on these e-mails.

Here is the main.text you requested for Deckard's. I don't see the extra.txt file anywhere.

Hi

I think Spybot interfered with the fixes, did you disable it?

You need to disable TeaTimer, so that it doesn't interfere with our fix.

This is a two step process.
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, click once on Resident Protection, then right-click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For both versions :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go to the bottom of the vertical panel on the left, click Tools
  • Then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Open HijackThis. Hit Do A System Scan Only. Place a check next to the following items (if present):
R3 - URLSearchHook: &Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [antiviirus] C:\Program Files\antiviirus.exe
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} -
O21 - SSODL: UnknownAlrt - {21e404ba-d15a-46cf-b1b1-0645e2d27e33} - (no file)
O21 - SSODL: zip - {c334a2f6-3a03-4f78-ae2a-53f1cc57b6c1} - (no file)

Close all browsers and windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Did you look for this file?
C:\Program Files\antiviirus.exe << FILE

Full DSS Scan:
  • Make sure that DSS.exe is located on your Desktop.
  • Click on your START button, then choose Run. A little box will appear.
  • Now copy and paste all the following in bold (including the "" marks into the run box and click OK.

    "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

  • This will start DSS in a different way. A small window will appear.
  • Click the Check All button.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When the scan is complete, please post the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply.
Thanks.
I missed a step the first time in disabling tea timer. I followed your instructions and here are the main.txt and extra.tst files you requested. I did not find the c:\program files\antiviirus.exe file.

Hi

To complete the uninstall of Norton, click here:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
and follow the instructions for Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
You will download a tool and run it from your Desktop, and this will clean up the Norton installation.

You can fix these entries in HijackThis:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [QuitCounter] C:\Program Files\Quit Counter\QuitCounter.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BgMonitor_{79662E04-7C6C-4d9f-84C7-88D8A56B10AA}] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMBgMonitor.exe"

After doing this, reboot your computer, and post a new HijackThis log, and let me know if you are having any additional problems.

Thanks.
Hi, I was not able to download the Norton Removal Tool from the Symantec web site. I got a error page every time I tried to download. Is there another site I might be able to download the same tool from? Thanks, Connie
Hi,

I had to disable windows firewall in order to download the Norton Removal Tool. I installed it and ran it and enabled my firewall. I fixed the entries in HiJack This and rebooted my computer. Here is my newest log file:

Do I still need to enable teatime in Spybot?

Connie
Hi Crich85

Log looks good

You can now delete any remaining tools I had you run.

You don't appear to be running any third party Firewall software.

Install a firewall! Without a firewall you are very susceptible to being hacked, and people could gain access to your computer. If you don't have a firewall I strongly recommend you download ONE of the following:
1) Comodo
2) Agnitum
3) Sunbelt/Kerio

Re-enable TeaTimer:
  • Open Spybot
  • Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
  • Click on Resident.
  • Check Resident "TeaTimer" box.
  • Click on Allow change ONLY to popup box with:
  • Entry: SpybotSD Teatimer
  • Click on Mode, select Default mode
  • Close Spybot

We should make another new System restore point, now that we have made more system changes.
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • Select the More options tab
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
Make sure you do this now, as your System Restore currently has infected files in it.

Please read this great article by Tony Klein: So How Did I Get Infected In First Place

Glad we could be of assistance.

Please reply to this thread once more if you are satisfied so that we can mark the problem as resolved.

Stay Clean!

Hi, I installed the Sunbelt Firewall. Do I need to disable Windows Firewall or can I both run at the same time? I re-enabled Tea Timer. I made a new system restore point for both volumes of my hard drive. I read the article by Tony Klein. It's very enlightening. I'm not having any notable problems at this time. Thanks so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it. Connie
Yes, I would recommend you disable Windows Internal Firewall if you are running a third-party firewall like Sunbelt. Glad we could help you
