My computer problem.

Last night I noticed that all of a sudden I couldnt right click my mouse while using internet explorer. I use it alot, with opening new tabs. That got me thinking about what might possibly be lurking inside my computer. Also, (this has been going on for some time now) When ever I bring up task manager, If just quickly hit ctrl/alt/del the task manager window comes up, but immediatly goes away. This happens everytime. I actually have to hold all ctrl/alt/del down for several seconds untill the window pops up..and then keep holding it for a couple more seconds, and that usually makes it stay up. Then, I end up just minimizing it so I dont have to do it again. Sometimes, it actually brings up 10 or 12 windows of task manager and my comuter slooooows down untill I get all but one 'x'ed out.

I'm sure I might have something going on. According to a post I just read, having more than one antivirus going doesnt help either? I didnt know that.

So, first off, I have Zone Alarm. Always running. Second. I have Avast. Always running. I recently got the new adaware. Just for scans, and it actually locks up sometimes while trying to scan. Or the scan take several hours. I (in my novice computer ways) thought that more was better. I also google processes sometimes to find out what some of the new ones are. Like, what the heck is taking up my recourses..and if it looks fishy, I google it, and mostly they say that is required, but then again, I dont know if I can trust the site telling me that!

endnote: I downloaded spybot, and when I first ran it, it gave me some sort of error about a file missing and it couldnt start, but yet it did come up. I dont know.

ok….here is my HJT log file. Tell me the error of my ways!

Hello 88attoseconds and welcome to the What the Tech Forums

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

A. I notice from the log that you are running more than one software Firewall program. Never install more than one Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously!
Firewalls are not compatible with each other. Having more than one running at the same time usually causes system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.

So you have to make a decision here and keep the Firewall you prefer and uninstall the other one.
Then reboot after uninstalling.

B. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
  • An additional text file, Extra.txt,will also be available (by default) in the following FOLDER, C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
  • Please go to that FOLDER and also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.
Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

What DSS will do:

  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed.

Post Logs:
  • DSS Scan Results: contents of 1) Main.txt and 2) Extra.txt
Wow…thanks so much for the reply. Ok, so I terminated Zonealarm. I still have Avast scanner running. Does this act as a firewall? Just curious if you would recommend a good one. I've used Avast for a while, because of its automatic updates. It's allways worked well. Do you think i should just go ahead and delete Zone Alarm all together? Whatever you think. (I'm humbled by your knowledge..I thought I knew a little something about computers..haha..)

Another issue. When I reboot, Avast instantly finds a so called "virus" {c:\wmdows\system32\msmuneeo.dll}. calling it (win32.keylogger-ntspy)
Now, I had downloaded alot of free trial keyloggers(to see if an old roomate was using my pc). When the trial was up, I would delete it. There was one, I cant remember what it was called, but I could never delete it. The "purchase now" window would pop up every 30 mins to remind me, so I just pushed it out of the screen without clicking on it so it wouldnt keep bothering me. After emailing the company who made it, I deleted most of it I think. But I did eventually buy one online that I keep running most of the time, using a hot key to bring up the main interface, but the first time I used spybot, all of a sudden my hot key combo doesnt work anymore. I hope I didnt accidently delete it. It worked great, and I paid for it so. Just curious about that.

Ok, here is the main txt. followed by the extra txt. Should I send you another HJT log? Or does this scanner include it? (i just noticed while it was running it towards the end said it was running Highjack This) Let me know. Thanks again in advance. I'm feeling better already. I'm going to tell everyone about you guys, and Donate!!!

1. No we do not get paid for this. We are all trained volunteers who help out as much as we can.

2. The two firewalls to which I was referring was Zone Alarm and IMFirewall that also has software firewall capabilities.

3. You have omitted to include the Add/Remove Program list which is part of the DSS log. Regardless, we will proceed without it.

4. Using the Add/Remove Program module in your Control Panel, please UNINSTALL the following program(s) if present:

PartPoker
PartyGaming

Justification for the above can be found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/uninstall/Cat-P.html

5. First we must disable some of your security programs so that they do not interfere with the running of our tools:

SPYBOT TEATIMER
  • Launch Spybot S&D, go to the Mode menu and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected.
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools, then click on the Resident Icon in the list.
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • Click on the "System Startup" icon in the List
  • Uncheck the "TeaTimer" box and "OK" any prompts.
  • If Teatimer gives you a warning that changes were made, click the "Allow Change" box when prompted.
  • Exit Spybot S&D when done.
  • (When we are done, you can re-enable Teatimer using the same steps but this time place a check next to "Resident TeaTimer" and check the "TeaTimer" box in System Startup.]

AVAST
Right click on the avast! icon in system tray (looks like this: [external image: Posted Image]) and choose (Stop On-Access Protection)

6. Please RUN HijackThis
  • Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B21C8D77-008B-4D42-8C69-04D3E676F8EE} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ekajf] c:\program files\slyxyjogljrd\ofylkl.exe
    O4 - Startup: Scrabble Online Registration.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\Installer\MSI33.tmp
    O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - C:\Program Files\PartyGaming\PartyPoker\RunApp.exe

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

7. Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE directly to your Desktop.

Note: If you already have ComboFix on your machine, please DELETE it from your desktop before downloading the newest version.

Go to [external image: Posted Image] -> Run -> copy/paste the following single line command in the runbox & click OK

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

[external image: Posted Image]
  • ComboFix will automatically start. Any monitoring programs will be shut down like your antivirus, antispyware programs for example.
  • ComboFix may restart your computer, this is normal.
  • When finished, it will produce a log, ComboFix.txt.
  • Please post ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CDs, floppies and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
ok…well I did everything. But, res. Tea-timer was not in the System Startup menu. I exited. here are my logs. (and as far as what you get paid, and according to your dismal reply to my joking, I only mentioned such things as to commend you on your work. You do deserve to get paid, and I only hoped that what I donate can somehow make it to you personally. As in, if I knew you from down the street and you came over and fixed my computer, I would compensate you. That's all. No need to be so distant or insulted.)

A.

No need to be so distant or insulted

I was neither, I took it as a compliment, not even a joke.

You do deserve to get paid

My wife tells me the same thing every night. She would like me to do this full time. Then I probably would not enjoy it and would not derive the satisfaction that I do just knowing that I am helping people.

and according to your dismal reply to my joking

And I thought you really wanted me to get paid :rofl: . I do not converse much with the people I help. Most of my answers are in point form. We usually have so many people to help in one evening, (most of us work on several sites every night, not just one) tonight I am taking a bit of a break, that we really do not have much time to get to know the people we are helping.

B. 1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.
2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

KillAll::

Folder::
C:\Program Files\PartyGaming
C:\Program Files\Slyxyjogljrd

DirLook::
C:\Program Files\setup.exe

Driver::
jnv4_mib
RTRSys

Registry::
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"MySpaceIM"="-
"Windows Supervisor"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"MSRegScan"=-
"winxld"=-
"ekajf"=-
[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"MySpaceIM"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=-
"UpdatesDisableNotify"=-
Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Now drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

5. All your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) will be stopped.

[external image: Posted Image]

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. ComboFix will automatically REBOOT your machine when the KillAll:: switch is used..

7. Post the following logs/Reports:
  • ComboFix.txt
  • Fresh HijackThis log run after all the other tools have performed their cleanup.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

C. Using Internet Explorer, please do a Kaspersky Online Scan

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component.
  • The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Locate the Scan Settings button & configure as follows:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK & have it scan My Computer
  • Once the scan is complete, it will provide a report if your system is infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

    [external image: Posted Image]

  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop and post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
A) Sorry for the tardy resonse B) I'm curious about all of the actions and steps you are having me take. I trust you know what you are doing, but I need a little explaination. I'm not comfortable with someone having all kinds of info on my pc and just throwing commands at me without some clue as to what they are for. I'm not looking for a computer lesson, but I would like to know why. You have yet to address my previous questions about firewalls and the boot up "virus" avast found. If you are just assuming that I should just go with what you say, then I'll just find another forum site. I've tried to make my posts as clear as possible. I'm not a complete novice at computers and processes there of. I just would like to know why you have me download this and install that. C) So far, the right click problem has vanished, as well as the task manager problem. Essentially you have solved my main problems. And my computer is running very smooth now. Thank you for that. D) If it requires too much time for you to devulge just a little info regarding my inquiries(B), then your lack of a response will be all the response I need. thanks again for the help.
Trevuren has asked that I take a look at your logs / scans.

I'm curious about all of the actions and steps you are having me take. I trust you know what you are doing, but I need a little explaination. I'm not comfortable with someone having all kinds of info on my pc and just throwing commands at me without some clue as to what they are for.

I'm not sure what all you're asking, but I'll try and answer.
1. Combofix will find hidden files so we can have a better chance locating infected files.
It will also make it much easier to remove the infection. That's what the CFScript.txt is for.

2. The Kaspersky Online Scan will also give us a better look at what, if anything bad is still active.

What's your question about firewalls?

Have you followed Trevuren last fix? If not please do so.
