i have trojan horse backdoor.agent.LTR ..it has infected this file … c:\windows\system32\drivers\fdwmayz.sys in my computer ..it has been quarantined by AVG ..antivirus ..i cannot clean the trojan ..if i delete the infected file ..then avg quarantines it again .

system restore service is disabled in my computer ..i disabled it 6 months back from services.msc
i ran a scan with spybot search and destroy and did not find anything.
i ran ATF cleaner.exe
i ran a scan from –> http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ ..it did not find anything
i went to avg forum to look for the trojan that i got but did not find any information there
i use AVG with zone alarm firewall
i have IE7 and firefox 2.0012 browser but i use firefox for my webbrowsing
i have tried all these things to get rid of the trojan horse backdoor.agent.LTR ..but i comes back if i delete the infected file and avg quarantines the same file again .The file quarantined is c:\windows\system32\drivers\fdwmayz.sys

i system seems slow now ..i don't know if its because of the trojan or just normal..i was able to finally delete the trojan from my avg quarantine…i updated my avg virus definations again and then deleted it ..now this time avg did not pick up the trojan ..like it was doing earlier..i am still confused whether the trojan is gone or not
since i went to great length to remove it . could you look up this log and tell me if i have any suspicious flle or not ..the other unusual thing is that now when i use my voice chat software called Team speak 2 ..i get a socket error..which i never got earlier..it could be coincedence i dont know rest seems to be fine . Maybe i need to get someother antivirus instead if you think avg is not good
I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

i did the steps you had instructed ..just to let you know …i don't use windows xp system restore ..i always keep it off & under services.msc also i have turned off the system restore service..so combofix was not able to create any restore point. Are there any precautions that i should take so that i don't get any trojan again in the future.
Do let me know if i need to do anything else or not .
Why are you running without a restore point?

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\affcca_r.dll

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html

http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
well the reason while i always keeps system restore service off is because i read in one of the forums once that..if a system is infected with virus/spyware/trojan/worms etc..and we use windows system restore to ..restore the system to a previous date ..that never helps in removing the infection..and they recommended that system restore
be turned off before the infection can be removed.
I used ..http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and uploaded affcca_r.dll from ( C:\WINDOWS\system32\affcca_r.dll)

Here's my usual all clean post

    Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

    %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

    Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
    Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Note: I no longer suggest Zone Alarm

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Using IE-SPYAD to help block unwanted sites and activities

  • Winpatrol

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.
