Hi Tech's….

If you have some time to look into this issue for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Problem: Everytime I open IE my page is directed to ieSearch.com. IE is basically not usable unless I use this page as my home page. Firewall(Zone Alerm) starts going crazy with message regarding possible attacks to host file, accessing the internet, potential key logging attacks..etc. I am on Windows XP, SP2. In short, my computer can no longer access the internet - which is why I am on my laptop writing you. :(

Status: So far only ran AdAware and Spybot - nothing found. I have searched the internet for iesearch issues. A lot on this problem, but when I look for the files/registry settings they are not found on my computer. Which makes me think this is a new version of this virus.

If you have the time and would like to help me, THANK YOU. I will check back and wait for instructions before I do anything else.

-E

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thank you for taking your time to look into this:

The first problems I was having is that my IE home page changed to iesearch.com as well as my quick search textbox in IE. I wasn't able to change the URL without my zonealerm throwing up pops with 127.0.0.0:[Port Number] A few of the port numbers were 1154, and 1128. Then I would start receiving random popups. Also, when changing the URL in IE zonealerm would popup and give a message of an attempt to log my keystrokes via a keylogger. I did search the registry and found where the www.iesearch.com entries were and removed the value. That only stopped the page from going to iesearch but the rest of the problems remained. Also, open camp.exe and CDRom Noun.exe keep trying to access my system - not sure if those are ligit services or not. So then I used adaware and spybot. After they finished I rebooted and the same problems existed. That's when I came across your site.

So here is the results of your instructions:

All files are now showing….

I ran ATF-Cleaners and it found about 1,000,000mbs (a lot in my recycle bin for sure).

Then I executed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: 3 items were identified:
Asware:180Solutions
Malware.Trace (value:host-domain-lookup.com)
Malware.Trace (value:host-domain-lookup.com)

Rebooted computer and IE is usable now - I can now go to websites. I am still getting random popops(www.go211.com, casino website…etc).

That looks to be the only issue. All else looks good right now.
