Hello everybody :)

I'm new here but it's a pleasure to meet you all. I'm having problems with spyware on my computer, Bassicly every now and then i get an Internet Explorer browser popping up saying WARNING you need protection, download this now, you get the jist I'm sure.

It came from downloading a program to watch movies with, a nice big noob mistake on by behalf, and now I'm suffering the consequences. When i went to install it Avast warned me immediately and naturally i went "o poo" ;) and told it to delete it, unfortunately it hasn't done the job.

The web address i get on internet explorer is something like scanner2.malware etc, anything i click on the website equals more virus'

I'm running a full scan on my computer with Windows Defender (have been for the last 1 hour 45mins) and a Thurough Scan including archive files with Avast.

Any help would be SO SO SO helpful.

Thanks

Kyrix

Just got another address from it Scanner.adwareremover2007 it came up with.
Another site it gave systemerrorfixer.com

Just found jeffreyalln's post i'm having the exact same probelm
http://forums.whatthetech.com/Problem_with…are_t88953.html

Although, i'm able to use Ad-Aware, and he says he can't, although i scanned my computer and all it found was cookies. Also i created a new user account on my computer, that got past the Task Manager blocking on it.

Been checking posts and everyone seems to have a HijackThis on there threads, so I've downloaded it and erm here's mine if it helps.

Hi Kyrix

I'm Gary R, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Just found jeffreyalln's post i'm having the exact same probelm

Although your symptoms may be very similar, there are significant differences between your infections.

You have signs of a Keylogger/RAT (Remote Access Trojan) on your computer.

This means your attacker may have full remote access to your computer and can use it as if he were sat in front of it.

You are strongly advised to do the following immediately:

1. Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.

2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, and financial institutions. Inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords – for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer, because the attacker will get the new passwords and transaction information.

IF YOU USE THIS COMPUTER FOR ONLINE BANKING OR OTHER FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS, OR HAVE DATA OF A CONFIDENTIAL NATURE ON IT, MY RECOMMENDATION IS THAT YOU RE-FORMAT AND RE-INSTALL YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM AND PROGRAMMES. WE CAN NEVER BE TOTALLY SURE WE HAVE GOT RID OF ALL MODIFICATIONS WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN MADE BY THE ATTACKER, AND THEREFORE CANNOT GUARANTEE THE SAFETY OF YOUR DATA.

If you choose to re-format, instructions for doing so can be found HERE (courtesy of wng_z3r0).

If you don't have the resources to reinstall your OS and/or would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I'll be happy to do so.

To help you decide, please take some time to read the following articles, then let me know how you want to proceed.

What are Remote Access Trojans and why are they dangerous
How do I respond to a possible identity theft and how do I prevent it
When should do a reformat and reinstallation of my OS

Ooooooooo ok, i'm not 100% sure if this may change what your thinking BUT WinVNC is a program i use … well me and my Dad use it, It means he doesn't have to go all the way upstairs to fiddle with my computer when he wants to do stuff, he also uses it to monitor my sister while she's on the computer as she's only young, the software is on his computer he logs in and he can take full control of my PC, iv'e had the software on my computer for 6 years now so it's safe :). I've also noticed that, i get the pop up every 15mins/30mins. Still Scanning my computer with Windows Defender an a-squared 3.1 at the moment. I'm not the only person who uses this computer and non of the users use online banking. I'd like to get rid of the problem rather then having to format, so your help would be delightful. Hope this helps a little
Being preety sure that WinVNC was the only diffrence u found between me and jeffreyalln, also being an impatient person :) i decided to read through the advice you gave to him and act upon it, as if the thing was as bad as u say it was, then what did i have to loose? Just got back from running all that lovely software in safe mode and haven't had a problem yet (please don't let me have just jinxed myself) I kept logs like u suggested to jeffreyalln Here they are: SmitFraudFix v2.290 Scan done at 13:28:31.43, 19/02/2008 Run from C:\Documents and Settings\Kyrix\Desktop\SmitfraudFix OS: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] - Windows_NT The filesystem type is NTFS Fix run in safe mode »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» SharedTaskScheduler Before SmitFraudFix !!!Attention, following keys are not inevitably infected!!! I've just told you that your problems were NOT the same as jeffreyalln's, and yet unbelievably you decide to go ahead on your own and run tools that you do not understand on an infection you do not know.

I can only assume you're some kind of fool.

In any case, as you seem to think you know what you're doing , you obviously don't want my help.

I am now closing this thread, and will go help someone who wants to be helped.
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
