[Resolved] Trojan W32.looksky & Other Infestations

Hi,
My computer has been taken over & I would appreciate help. When I switch on the screen is red with a symbol and says"Your privacy is in danger! Download Privacy Protection Software now & new icons have appeared, Privacy Protector, Error Cleaner & Spyware & Malaware protection. I get unconvincing warning windows stating I need to download various programs to fix problems, one states that I have Trojan W32.Looksky and that I should click 'yes' to remove it. I keep getting taken on to Internet Explorer where ads for various Spyware & Virus removal ads scan my computer & tell me I need to download things. My internet browser & home page have been set to http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid-6010&mid=. I ran a Ad-aware scan and these were all removed until I restarted my computer and they all returned, except the address in my browser seems to have gone for now. I have run Spybot 1.5 & it found, nous-tech Ultimate - Fake Security Centre, Smitfraud-C, Microsoft windows App Firewall Bypass, Microsoft windows IE Firewall Bypass, Smitfraud-CMSVPS & Virtumonde before the computer shut down unexpectedly, I've tried running Spybot a few times and my computer shuts down just before the end everytime. The computer doesn't seem to shut down when I'm doing anything else on it. I'm a real novice when it comes to these sort of things so I hope I have given you all the relevent information. My Hijack This Log is below, no other scans or alterations have been done between switching on the computer, downloading Hijack This, registering with you & sending you the log. I hope you can help. Hi! Welcome to the WTT forums.
I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:

    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Hi Scotty, Thanks for your prompt reply yesterday. I'm sorry to say I think I've blundered. I got the uninstall list done no problems but when I downloaded ComboFix, I must have pressed run by mistake and it started to run before I had had a chance to disconnect from the internet or disable my anti-virus & anti-spyware. Since you said not to mouseclick when it was running I just let it run, it restarted my computer & produced a log which I have saved but don't know that it will be any good to you. I only hope I haven't done untold damage & caused you a headache. Here's the uninstall log and I await your reply. Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Save this as "CFScript"

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Display Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop… > Web tab
Select everything named Privacy_Danger you find in there and press the Delete button on the right.
Hit OK then Apply in previous window.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post with the Combofix lo and a new HijackThis log.

Hi Scotty, Sorry to sound a bit 'simple', but stuck at the first hurdle. I copied direct from your reply, opened Notepad & pasted info into box, but how do I save this as "CFScript". When I click 'Save as' the box opens as 'Save in' Hijack This & wont let me save it. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? Rob

Click on the File tab then Save As.

Where it says Save in at the top, select Desktop.

Underneath, are three more boxes.
Filename CFScript
Save as type It should say Text Documents. Dont change that nor the last box.

A text document will appear on your Desktop, just drag it onto the Combofix icon and Combofix will start again. The text file will disappear, dont worry about that.

Hi Scotty, Had no luck finding the ComboFix Icon, is it possible that I didn't save it? When I downloaded ComboFix yesterday it did all go rather rapidly & before I knew it, it was running. The only thing I've found other than the Log I saved was a folder named ComboFix, C:\qoobox\Quarantine\C, in that folder was FProps.vbs.vir (16KB), VIR File but no big red icons, does this mean aything to you? Could I download the program again & make sure I save it, or would that not work? Sorry, I know my lack of computer knowhow is hindering your assistance. Rob

It is a bit strange, but yes download again. Firstly delete these two folders if they are present.

C:\Combofix
C:\Qoobox

New ones will be created. And when you download CF again, remember to save it to your Desktop. The icon will appear and you just need to follow my instruction to run the CFScript.

Delete the Combofix text files that are located on C, (the old logs), so you dont get confused.

Hi Scotty, Just to make sure I don't blunder again. I take it when I download ComboFix and save it to my desktop I don't need to run it again? I then just follow your instructions and drag theCFScript (which is still currently on my desktop) into the ComboFix Icon which will be on the desktop after I've downloaded it, & post you the resulting log etc. Rob
