Hello All, writing this at work. Home XP has just come under attack by malware programs including Deus2008. HELP! I've read some fixed in forums and will try them. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks.
Hi and welcome to the WTT forums
Sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with malware.
If you go here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/Welcome_New_…ers_t34502.html
and follow carefully the directions, posting an HJT log in the correct forum (Not here in this sub-forum please as we don't analyse them here) a trained malware fighter will be able to give you detailed and specific advice on how best to clean your machine

One other concern is that these adware's/malwares/viruses seem to hijack internet explorer and limit is functional ability. A web page will come up (ie-yahoo….) but is soon taken over by one of these things. If that happens and i can't link into the forum and do the tasks, what suggestions do you then have?
Thanks
Ross
Hi,
If your machine is so bad that you cannot connect to the malware removal forum then it would be best to use another machine to make the connection. This could be one from your work if that is permissable, or a chum's machine or one provided by the local authority at, for example a local library.
A flash drive ( memory stick, thumb drive) is a handy thing to have as you will be able to download HJT to it, transfer it to your infected machine, create a log file, copy it to the removable drive and use the unininfected machine to copy and paste your response to your topic in the malware removal forum. Please avoid cross contamination and copy only the log files, and programmes that are recommended by your expert malware fighter. He or she will give you detailed and specific advice and instructions on each particular phase of the cleaning process. Your malware fighter will stick by you until the task is completed but please remember that there is usually no "magic bullet" that will completely cleanse your machine in one shot.
When posting your log in the malware removal forum please enclose a link to this thread here and mention in the topic title "Referred by Tech Team" they will then be aware of the difficulties under which you are working.
Once you have posted your log in the malware removal forum, please don't follow it up or make any additional posts to that thread until a malware fighter has responded to you (they look first for topics with no responses) Often the number of folks in trouble exceeds the number of trained malware fighters available, but rest assured they will get to your post as soon as they can.
Please post back here in this thread if you have any general questions on the procedures prior to you receiving a response and we will do our best to help.
We recommend that once you have posted your log you do not make any system changes until instructed otherwise by your malware fighter.
Good luck
Regards
