Hi, The computer im using at the moment is slowly breaking down, i think the motherboard is burning out. it is taking ages to load up windows and any apps. when i open up ie 6 and put a site in the address bar it takes about 5 minutes before it even attemps to find the page. Its a old compaq computer, i have got a pc which i have just built and was wondering if the compaq hdd would go in to my other pc. it is currently running ubuntu which im trying to remove. Will this be ok? Thanks In Advance Theviruskiller
Hi, Your old drive is probably an IDE whilst your new one is probably SATA (you can get adapters) and some motherboards have facilities for both SATA and IDE. Assuming that your new machine has the larger and faster hard drive then your old drive could be used for example for data (assuming its sound, and you can format it successfully) However I suggest you consider the following view. I would be inclined not to install it, but to format it and stick it in an external case (USB) and use it as an external hard drive…..a very useful piece of kit. I would not be without one! The cases can be found at Maplins (UK) or similar, or on Ebay, and the last one I bought cost GBP £4 (about USD $8 + postage) Regards paws
Hi, Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about getting a external hard drive for a little while now. my other computer takes both SATA and IDE. The hard drive has quiet abit of data on it which we need and with the cd rw broken we cant get it off. Thanks vk
Hi, That's a good solution, stick it in an external case and you will be able to pull all your data off easily. (as long as you don't format it! :) Regards paws
