Hi,
Was wondering if you could help me with this problem? Basically, svchost.exe is acting up, its hitting 100% CPU at times. If you kill the process, it will just come back within 5 minutes, the only solution I've found so far is to use3 Process Explorer to suspend the troublesome thread in the process. Even then, there's no gaurantee that it wont just make another thread with the same problem within an hour or so.
Additional problems with the PC would be that going to Start > Run, will open the run box, but the PC becomes incredably slow once "run" is open. Typing into the box takes an age, usually one keystroke is added every two seconds or so. Once you have typed what you want (say….services.msc) it will take a good 5 mins to open, and then hang. Happens also with msconfig from the run box.
All other apps seem to run fine, as long as svchost.exe isnt currently chewing up the CPU time.
Going to control panel then network connections will crash the explorer.exe process.
Trying to browse a USB external HDD will crash explorer occasionally.
Other than that, and as long as svchost isnt going mad, the PC runs fine. I've ran all the obvious tests, such as antivirus (several brands - all come up clear), Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and done all Windows Updates to present, only to find nothing and to reboot to a PC thats still not working as it should.
Here is what I see in Process Explorer for whatever svchost.exe process is currently maxing out:
[external image: Posted Image]
and the stack for that thread will be, without fail the same each time as below:
[external image: Posted Image]
Now, thats about as far as my own PC knowledge can get me to find out whats causing this problem, so I hope maybe someone here could tell me what I should do next to solve this irritating problem. Obviously, I could of course re-format, but I was hoping that there might be a simple fix that I'm unaware of, or that this is a common problem?
