media player freezing

Hi there and tx in advance for any help provided… My system is an Dell Inspiron 6400 XP home Intel 1.73GHz, 1GB The problem is, I can't play any sort of video anymore, at least nothing from a media like a dvd or cd, it is fine if the video is saved on the hd, otherwise the image keeps freezing and the sound as well, doesn't matter which player i use, WMP , NERO , Real P, or any other. I usually sort out the problems on my laptop by myself, searching for help online, but this time i have no idea on what to do… any help?????? tx in advance.

The point of failure seems to be the CD/DVD drive. Have you tried another one?
