I am having two problems, when I use internet explorer it locks up after accessing a few pages. Thinking it was an issue with the temp folder filling up I tried to open the IE tools/internet options menu and it won't open. I see a quick flash of what appears to be the menu opening and then it goes away. When I start internet explorer I see, in the bottom of the screen where the web site the browser is opening is displayed, there is something called ads1 included with MSN which is my homepage. I ran spywareBot, Ad Aware from Lavasoft, and symantic antivirus all with updates. The ad aware and spywareBot found a lot of stuff, and I was able to delete it but I still have the IE issues.

Hello William13 and Welcome to the forum,

Does the same happen if you use an alternative browser like Firefox?

I suggest follow below and see how you go.

Backup/archive/copy

To be on the safe side I strongly recommend that before doing anything at all you check that your back up/archive/copy of all your important data, drivers, files, settings, work, etc is 100% up to date accurate and reproducible, (even if your back up is even only a day or so out of date, it's worth updating it now.)
Also don't forget to check that you have all your application Installation CD's to hand together with the product keys (including those for Windows itself)

Windows Protected System File Checker SFC

Start>Run
type:
sfc /scannow (note the space between the c /)
Have your Win XP installation disc handy as if damaged files are found they will need to be copied across from your disc, if SFC can't find correct copies elsewhere.

_________________________

SFC does not file a report at the end so if you still have the same problem you may consider following ths site and post a HJT log

kind regards,

I ran the windows system file checker. There were several files it repaired or replaced. However, I am still having problems with my internet connection on that computer.
After visiting one or two pages the internet connection locks up (it does this in Netscape) as well.

I ran the HJT software, the log is posted below.

Hi Again William13,

I pointed out in my quote below from my last post the correct forum for posting a HJT LOG. Here is the link yet again at the bottom of this post. We do not analyse logs in this forum. That is an experts job and to obtain that help please follow the correct link given.

SFC does not file a report at the end so if you still have the same problem you may consider following ths site and post a HJT log
