hello. The speed of my system is giving me some problems. My system has become slow. It is especially slow on startup, and it takes more than normal time before i can start doing anything on my system. The system also sometimes hangs for a few seconds if more than 1 application is running at a time.
The problem is not serious, nonetheless it is quite inconvenient. I'd be really glad if someone can help me out.
Thanx :).
Have you cleared your temporary internet cache lately and what Antvirus and Antispyware software are you currently running and are the definitions up to date?
Post back and tell us more about your system. Have you done a disk cleanup in recent time and have you got too many startup programs scheduled to start at boot up?
Is your HD free of all software you are not using at this time. Go to Add and Remove and uninstall all software you are not using and have not used in months/years.
Have you defragged your drive lately and updated your definitions on your software that keeps your computer clean of nasties?
Please post back and tell us more so we can help in detail.
How does it behave if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking? If better then something is starting at boot that is causing the problem. Try the following:
First, physically disconnect from the Internet to prevent a malware infection while your Anti-virus and/or Firewall are disabled in the following steps, then do a normal boot:
Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.
Click on the Startup tab and disable everything (I mean everything).
Do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.
If no, click on the Services tab. Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box then disable what's left (all of it).
Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.
If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.
Reconnect to the Internet when you AV and firewall are active again.done.
Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.
Try this great site from CC to identify all your startup items and disable or manually start the ones you do not need at startup. Go to My Computer>manage>services and applications in the left pane>services in the right pane. You can extend the box by dragging with your cursor in the lower right hand corner for easy access.
If you need more help please post back.
kind regards,
