Hello,
My system seems to run slow and was wondering if someone can assist with tweaking my OS within Services and let me know what I can keep enable, put to manual and/or disable and any other tweaks to help my PC run faster…
You must use your Internet Explorer for this procedure. (doesn't work so well in Firefox or others)
Go to: http://www.pcpitstop.com
Click on "Free Computer Check-up" listed below PC Pitstop OverDrive
In the User Login - Click on "Sign up FREE!"
You'll need to submit a valid email address and create your own password, then click - Create Account(button)
Now enter your email address and password to Log in, Select - Scan this system Now!(button)
You will then be asked to download an ActiveX component and allow it to install.
It is safe and does not compromise your privacy.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the ActiveX and to allow the Full Tests to be run on your machine.
The Full Tests take about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes on most machines.
When complete, a Results - Summary - Recommended Fixes will be displayed.
Please post the URL internet address from your Results, back here into this Topic Thread so that we can review the configuration and present performance levels of your machine.
Note: During the graphics 2D and graphics 3D testing, your screen will display some rapidly moving objects.
If you are sensitive to visual flashing, it may cause dizziness. Therefore, look away from the screen during that portion of the testing.
After reviewing the results we will be more informed and may be able to provide better recommendations for you to work towards improving your machine's performance.
One of the areas on your machine that stands out is that you may be have a Peer to Peer file sharing application Utorrent…this is a major vector through which undesirable and or malicious code can be distributed.
1 It is recommended that before you do anything else you check that your back up/copy/archive of all your important material is 100% accurate, up to date, reproducible and kept safe on removable media.
2 If you have a disc image of your perfect set up when all was running fast and sweet, with no unnecessary applications installed all junk files removed, defragged, with no undesirable elements or malicious code present then make sure that the image is verified and also a copy kept safe on removable media.
3 If you have used file sharing (Utorrent) and have any files at all on your machine of less than proven provenance then its recommended that you delete them, empty your recycle bin and carry out a full virus scan your your updated anti virus application.
4 You have a fast machine with adequate RAM for normal purposes, despite the number of applications you have running..it should be able to cope with it…. if it can't then you may have some deeper problems or configuration errors.
5 The unnecessary start up items as described in the PCPitstop "blue area" can be disabled via MSCONFIG (see the PCPit stop directions, however the effects on performance are likely to be marginal. There is no need to update your audio driver unless you are experiencing problems with it.
6 Please run the code stuff starters application as advised by Ztruker and post the log BUT ONLY AFTER you have uninstalled the Utorrent and deleted any files of unproven provenance and we will advise the next step.
Regards
paws
Hi – I have uninstalled the UTorrent program; all scans find no virus/adware/spyware.
I know that I have a lot of memory & HHD & I have just bought a new Brother printer & I uninstalled my old HP printer stuff, but MSCONFIG still shows HP start-up. I just want to make sure that there are things I do not need such as help docs, etc. Speaking of help docs, my Logitech webcam I notice when starting up will show a help doc being run & then it will disappear; however, this sometimes won't disappears & I have to go into control panel & cancel it – I am not able to find this doc within settings to disable this from starting up too…

Using msconfig you are just disabling them, not removing them so if you find any that really need to start at boot time, just go back into msconfig and enable them again.
I also noticed you are using WinPatrol. Might want to disable that as well and see what effect it has.
That's a complete list. The best way to look at services you can stop is via msconfig. Click on the Services tab then check the Hide all Microsoft Services tab. There will be a much shorter list to look at that way.
If you want, capture an image of that window and post it here and I'll take a look.
Okay see attached. I do notice that everytime I try to disable

when I reboot, it is enable again…
Bonjour Services (usually installed as part of iTiunes, will start if needed)
Java Quick Starter
LightScribe Service (how often do you use the LightScribe capability of your burner?)
Process Monitor (don't know what this is but disable it and see what happens)
Microsoft Office Groove (Work together and share information with team members - not normally needed at home)
NMIndexingService (Nero Media Indexing Service)
SureThing LabelFlash (CD/DVD Labeler - hardly needs to run at boot time)
