Let's try another different type of approach. Not sure what's going on here…

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
* Double click the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
* This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
* Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
* Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
* Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
* Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
* When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
* Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
* Close Dr.Web Cureit.
* Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
* After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
Here is the DrWeb log along with a freah HJT log.

Looks good, think you got it. How are things running? If all is well just some cleanup and advice.

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. Hi Dave, The computer seems to be running like it used to…THANK YOU very much. The last 3 AVG scans have show no infected files…YEA..The only infected files that are left in the vault are 6 temp internet files in IE5…should I delete them or just leave them there?. As for the programs you suggest ..should I run them all at the same time along with both AVG anti-virus and AVG anti spy ware? Also when the AVG anti spyware trial is up should I keep the free part and manually update or just let it expire? What about HJT,ATFcleaner,SDfix,DRweb…should I keep these on the desktop or delete them. Again thanks for your help.

You can delete.

As for the programs you suggest ..should I run them all at the same time along with both AVG anti-virus and AVG anti spy ware?

Up to you. None of them really take up much resources. Maybe run either Adaware or Spybot. Spybot has tea timer which provides some kind of real time protection without slowing you down too much. The others are more just immunization.

Also when the AVG anti spyware trial is up should I keep the free part and manually update or just let it expire?

I keep and use the free version for one time scans as the real time protection ends after trial. Use it monthly myself, it is very thorough.

What about HJT,ATFcleaner,SDfix,DRweb…should I keep these on the desktop or delete them.

I would remove all but ATFCleaner. I use ATFCleaner once a week for cleanup. Better and faster than the Windows way of doing it…

Good luck,
Dave
Hi Dave, I've downloaded all the programs you suggested and I read the article at the bottom of your post…what do you think about the firewall programs…I thought I was protected with the firewall in my Wireless-G 2.4 GHZ broadband router. Am I wrong..should I download one…which one do you recommend?
Zone Alarm is bloated in my opinion and will slow you down.
Haven't used Sygate. Free shareware, not sure if any better than the Windows Firewall or not?
Kerio (which is Outpost) used to be free not long ago. Now it's 10 bucks, still a good deal. I like it and it doesn't use too many system resources. Think you can get it free if you fill out all these offers…but you'll get spammed to death.
Link to that one was broken.
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-…sonal-Firewall/

You are pretty good though with the combination of the Windows Firewall and your router. But in my opinion Outpost would be the best choice…

Hope that helps,
dave
Hi Dave, Everything seems to be working good except for one little thing. Now when I'm in Netscape and try to click on a highlighted web page that someone sent me it goes directly into Internet Explorer instead of Netscape. And Internet Explorer does seem to load…it says its looking for buttons on Yahoo. I really never use Internet Explorer, except for when you had me try using it. What I have to do is copy and paste it to Netscape and it works fine then…it's just a pain having to do that all the time. How do I go about changing this…Thanks…Dan
