Computer running generally slow….taking a long time to open up new windows etc - have run adaware, AVG, all seem to come up with the altnet problem but can't remove/clean it…any help?

Welcome to What The Tech. Sorry if there was a delay, it's a busy forum.

First of all, you are using an older version of HijackThis. Please do the following to download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
  • Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
  • Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
  • Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Now please delete the zip file you have with the older version of HijackThis(HJT). The one you used to post you original log..

Please open up HijackThis.
Click on Config
Click on Misc Tools
Click on Open Uninstall Manager
Click on Save
A notepad document will open with a list of your installed programs. Please copy that into your reply.

Please either print this page or save it to a program like Notepad because you wont have Internet access in Safe Mode.

You seem to have previously had Windows SP2 installed, why did you choose to remove it?

You have SpyHunter installed. It used to be a rogue anti-spyware program, however its since been de-listed. However since it once had a reputation for being such a program and it is known to produce poor results I recommend you uninstall it. You already have similar programs installed that produce better results. For more information on SpyHunter please see this site.
If you want to uninstall it please:
Click on the Windows Start button in the left hand corner of your screen.
Go to Control Panel
Double click on Add or Remove Programs and uninstall
SpywareHunter

Then delete the following folder listed in bold
C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group <— This folder.

Please go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue icon with a magnifying glass that can be difficult to see but the handle is red. Right click it and select settings. Uncheck Load at startup and Enabled. It could interfere with the fixes.

Open up HijackThis, do a System Scan and select the following entries(if present)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

If you chose to uninstall SpyHunter please also select this entry
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyHunter] C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group\SpyHunter\SpyHunter.exe
Then close all other windows (you can keep the current browser window open if you like) and press Fix checked and close the program.

Download, install, and update the trial version of AVG 7.5 anti-spyware
  • Load AVG 7.5 and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Close AVG 7.5. Do not run it yet.
Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, please restart your computer. Tap F8 a few times before Windows loads. Select Safe Mode on the screen that appears.
  • In Safe Mode, load AVG 7.5 and click on the Scanner tab at the top. Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and click Automatically generate report after every scan. Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
  • AVG 7.5 will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG 7.5 will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Restart back into Normal Mode.

Thanks again!

Couple of probs with the actions….the TrojanHunter I have is out of date and would not initiate scan on start up.

Also, AVG did not let me save a report.

Couldn't get the AVG report……but it deleted/quaranteened everything except for one - adware.generic; which showed 'error while quaranteening'

PC is still mega slow when trying to open new browser windows…..

The following entries can be selected to stop the associated program from running at startup, they program itself will not be affected, it will just mean it wont run automatically at startup and removing these entries should help speed up your computer. I recommend you select these entries but each one is your choice.

Open up HijackThis, do a System Scan and select the following entries(if present)

Please download Spybot Search & Destroy(you had an older version installed, this one will be the most recent) from here and install it.
Please refer to this tutorial for updating and running the program.

Run it and save the report following these instructions.
  • Right click on any part of the results when the scan has finished.
  • Choose the Save full report to file option.
  • A default location will open up for you to save the .txt document with a default name, just save it and remember the location it was saved in.
  • Close Spybot Search & Destroy and open the file you just saved in Notepad.
  • Copy the contents of the file to your next post.

Also I see no evidence in your log that you are running AVG Antivirus like I did before, have you uninstalled it?
