EXACTLY the same problem as they did, i did all the things the people in the thread had them do, i got it fixed, but that only made my background the same color as the icon text's box color and i am so mad at my mom messing with my computer -.-

I DO NOT WANT A BLUE BACKGROUND
i want to have a nice background like bliss without the horrid look of the icon text background.
I have tried the shadow thing, no good, i have tried everything, in that thread, still no good.

-.-

Also, i bought a used, but good condition laptop.
a dell latitude.
The usb ports work, as in it will accept a mouse, but when i plug in my portable usb passport made by WD, it doesn't register it.
The passport turns on, the light glows blue, and then i hear wierd clicking noises.

I have tried to install drivers, still doesn't work, what the hell is wrong.
To make the background for all Icon text on your Desktop transparent, meaning there is no color blob around the text, do the following: Start / Control Panel / System / Advanced Tab Under Performance click on Settings / Visual Effects Tab Put a check next to "Use drop down shadows for icon labels on the desktop" Apply / Ok If this still doesn't work, right-click on the desktop, point to Arrange Icons By and make sure that "Lock Web Items on Desktop" is un-checked. If you have Desktop settings set to "Lock Desktop Items" you can't remove the background color. Check here too. Right click on Desktop then select Properties / Desktop Tab / Customize Desktop button / Web Tab and take the check out of "Lock Desktop Items" Ok / Apply / Ok
I did read through the link you provided but you enabled desk lock which is exactly the opposite of what you need to do. Needs to be unlocked.

Perhaps give WIndowFX a try, see if it fixes it for you.
