:wall: Maybe I will get it right this time.

Good Afternoon,

Here are my log files of Combofix, VundoFix, and Hijackthis. I used info from my last session since problems were similar - (http://forums.whatthetech.com/Hijack_This_Log_t82333.html&hl;=lori).

I would appreciate your expertise.

I think that the infection on this computer was further complicated because there were three Login ID's (KIDS :) ), and a lot of files that shouldn't be moved were moved.

So.. what I did was set up a new Login ID, consolidated files and put them into a new Account. Then I deleted one of the extra accounts. I will be deleting the other account as soon as I am sure that I removed everything I needed. I also stopped the Automatic Updates that I think was slowing computer down and got rid of a lot of unnessesary files and programs.

The new account is running pretty well but is still not 100%. It takes long too load at times and is freezing periodically. At shut down the following programs usually have error messages that they are not responding: ccApp, and explorer.exe.

Also, the previous account that I deleted had a recent error message that showed that also showed that it was not responding at shut down. This file name had unrecognizable symbols that were possible Chinese or Japanese?

Thanks in advance,
Lori

Hello Lori,

This is Ken, hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

Your HJT log looks fine although the Combofix log is showing some leftover Vundo files, do this please. Drag Combofix to the trash and download a new copy TO YOUR DESKTOP and run it and then also post a new HJT log as your current one is a little old.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post the Combofix log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Thanks Ken, good to hear from you. Before I reload Combofix I have a question:
While I was doing a search for combofix files to delete, I found a combofix quarantine file. Do I need to do anything with this first? Lori

Hi Lori,

Why don't we start from scratch.

  • Go to Start > Run and copy and paste ComboFix /u into the box
  • Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
  • Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

 OK Ken, here it is:

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

[external image: Posted Image]

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Go to this site Jotti Upload and under the browse feature, browse to these files.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ffJmpWeb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wodfamoh.dll

Then click on Submit and it will give you a report for each file , post the reports in your next reply.

Lori, after each scan we run of fix we do I always need to see a new Hijackthis log . So post the new Combofix log, the reports from those two files from Jotti and a New HJT log please

Your log looks good  But lets do a few things to clean you up.

You have Spybot Search and Destroy installed, go to Help> About and make sure its version 1.5.1, if not you can download the newer version here, set it up this way , check for updates and run the scan, it wont take long. Do not be alarmed if it finds Vundo as there are most likely leftover registry entries on your system it will find and remove. After the scan, have it remove it all…REBOOT and run it again until its clean.

Download and install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.1

If you have the older version 1.4, remove it via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

  • During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
  • Go to Mode and click on Advanced Mode
  • Then to Updates Search for Updates
  • If you get a Bad Checksum Error, just choose a different download location.
  • Then to Settings/ File Sets and take the checkmark out of Usage Tracks
  • Then to Tools/ Hosts Files click on Add Spybot S&D Hosts Files.
  • Then to Tools/ IE Tweeks and put a checkmark in Lock the Hosts Files
  • Then to Immunize. Up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on Immunize.
  • Then to Search and Destroy/ Check for Problems
  • Let it scan your system
  • Then to Fix Problems and fix all it finds.
  • Reboot your computer.

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Post a new HJT log and lets make sure nothing has come back and let me know how your system is running now??
Hi Ken,
Thanks for your patience. Computer doing better, however still pretty slow at times (windows freeze often). I think that the Tea Timer may be part of it. Any suggestions?

If you feel I took care of everything I could here, can you recommend another "WhatTheTech" Forum that will help me figure out the rest? Thanks again, Lori

Downloaded new version spybot, ran, and rebooted

Hi Lori,

When you installed CCleaner if you did not read each step as you installed it , it installed the Yahoo Toolbar, no biggie, you can uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

You have HJT set to start when windows starts and its really not needed, instead of changing it, why dont you uninstall it via Add Remove also and download and install the newer version by Trendmicro. After you install it open HJT and go to Misc. Tools> Main and make sure its not checked to run at startup.

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe

You can also disable the TeaTimer in Spybot . It will take a reboot for it to take effect.

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

You can also drag Vundofix to the trash as its updated on a regular basis.

The rest of you log looks fine  But you can run Super Anti Spyware and lets see if it picks anything up, if not than I can direct you to some great support sites for windows that deal with slow computers.

Please download SuperAntiSpyware
Install the program
  • Run SuperAntiSpyware and click: Check for updates
  • Once the update is finished, on the main screen, click: Scan your computer
  • Check: Perform Complete Scan
  • Click Next to start the scan.
Superantispyware scans the computer, and when finished, lists all the infections found.
Make sure everything found has a check next to it, and press: Next
Then, click Finish

It is possible that the program asks to reboot in order to delete some files.

Obtain the SuperAntiSpyware log as follows:
  • Click: Preferences
  • Click the Statistics/Logs tab
  • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SuperAntiSpyware Scan Log
It opens in your default text editor (such as Notepad)

Please provide the SuperAntiSpyware log in your reply, as well as a new HijackThis log.

Let me see the SAS log and go back and rename Trendmicros HJT to Lori.exe post a new log please
Hi Ken,
The tea timer is still running even though it does not show in report (I ended it in task menu). I forgot to mention to you that I tried to follow Spybot steps and had a problem with step 4:
"Then click on the Resident Icon in the List….and uncheck tea timer". I unchecked the Resident Icon, however the "Resident TeaTimer" icon was missing, so I was unable to uncheck. Should I uninstall Spybot altogether since I installed Superspybot, or can I delete the teatimer.exe file? I also uninstalled Yahoo, but noticed some Yahoo stuff in Trend Micro HiJACK This log.

Hope you are having a nice weekend,
Lori

Spybot Search and Destroy has an immunization feature that will help prevent some bad things from installing, Super Anti Spyware is just a scanner and a good one I might add, you can keep them both.

The rest of your log looks fine

How are things running now??
 Would you believe that there was a power outage which surged past my "surge protector" and into my computer and disabled it??? I heard the buzzing first :o and knew there was going to be a problem. After about an hour the power came back on, but computer wouldn't. At first I cried :( then had to laugh  .

At this point I don't think this computer is going to come out of it's coma, however if you don't mind keeping this open for a week until I have it checked I would appreciate it. Thank you Ken my computer friend  . Lori
"What am I going to do with you. You need a good Surge Protector, not the cheap ones at K-Mart. " LOL - very funny and true! thanks for the advice. Who knew? This would make a good television commercial :D .
