The hard drive in my laptop bit the dust, so I bought a bigger one and put it in the notebook. I also put the old, dead one into an enclosure, but like I said, it doesn't work. So it's been a paperweight for about 6 months now and I think it is time I did something to make it functional again.
I just don't know where to start.
So without further rambling…
How do I repartition a bad Hard Drive?
If its dead, its dead. Since enclosures are not always fully cooperative, I would suggest you use a Laptop to IDE Hard Drive Adapter and plug that drive into a regular PC as a slave drive. Then see if the BIOS can detect it. If it can, then you MIGHT be able to reformat/repartition it. But even if you can, I would not trust it for critical data - if it has failed once, it may fail again.
If the BIOS cannot detect it (assuming it is installed correctly) then it is probably dead dead.
No the hard drive is well and fine, just when it get plugged in, some sort of "media write error" comes up. The BIOS detects it, it just needs to be reformatted…I think.
