can anyone help. In device manager the drivers will update and the latest ones are installed, but the drive still will not work. I have looked to see that the ide is enabled in bios and it looks as though it is, however im not sure really about what im doing.
Hi, Sorry to hear about the problem with your CD/DVD drives. As you have posted an HJT log in the malware removal forum. it is best that you do not receive advice here or make any system changes until your machine has been declared clean by a malware removal expert. (we don't want to make their job any more difficult than it is already, by altering things here, until they have finished their good work) If you are still having issues with your machine once your machine has been declared clean then please post back here in this thread and we will do our best to help. Regards paws
If your HJT log comes out clear, you need to ensure the drives' jumpers are setup correctly. You have two methods you can use:

1. Both drives on the same cable MUST have jumpers set to CS (Cable Select) - in this method, the controller determines which drive is Master (primary) and which is Slave (secondary) by the drives' position on the cable (Master is opposite end of system/motherboard connector and Slave is in the center).

2. One drive is set to Master and the other is set to Slave and both must be correctly positioned on the cable.

Note you cannot mix CS and MA/SL on the same cable. Note too, if only one drive, it must be set to Master or CS - never Slave.

Important - I am assuming this is a new drive installation - if not, then making sure the system is clean of malware was a good first course of action.
