Hey, i need abit of help here, i ran CCleaner, and i think it must have deleted some system files, I checked on google and others are reporting the same thing. I used to get a "WRITE DELAYED FAILED error, startup was 10-15 min, computer awfully slow and i got a blue screen a few times with the error NTFS.SYS.

My laptop is running win XP sp2, its a toshiba.
So I noticed that the HWsetup for toshiba didnt work and the FN functions (for those who are not familiar with this, its the toshiba hotkeys and stuff) so i reinstalled all those toshiba programs and my computer is working much better.

Only thing is that i think some window files, or something else is missing/wrong. Startup is about 5min now, computer is slow. Please help me fix my computer.
Also please tell me if i need to include other information.

jdie,

Welcome to the forum, you have a clean HJT log,
  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

A word on CCleaner, I run this on my own systems about once a week and have so for the past few years without any problems, it does not remove or delete windows files. If you ran the issues scan and removed entries in your registry , that could be another story. If you did run the issues scan, you can restore it, here is the link to the tutorial.

http://www.ccleaner.com/help/?v=2.01.507&l=1033

You can try a few things.

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system, you may or may not need the Windows XP CD. If you have a I386 folder on your C:\ drive you may not need the disk.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.

If that didn't help you can try using System Restore and restore your system to before you ran CCleaner
Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories> System Tools> System Restore and click on Restore my system to a previous time and pick a time before you ran CCleaner.

If still a no go, then I suggest you post in one of these windows forums as this forum is for malware removal only.
