  • Hi :)

I haven't had any pop up ads, computer seems to be running good

That's great to hear :) There are, however, still a few items to clean up.
  • Kaspersky has found an infected mail in your Outlook mailbox. Please open Outlook and find this mail in your Inbox:

Quick question before deleting things with Hijack this -

Both these items are for viewing webcams from sites that I trust…is there an issue here? I watch birdcams online. The first one is for an eaglecam, the second one for a kestrel cam.

O16 - DPF: {0348CD18-6EFE-415B-AF32-58F08FA29B33} (WCSAXrview Control) - http://eaglecams.ginncompany.com:8081/wcsarview.cab

And I also view some other bird cams with Realplayer - would removing this affect that?

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/1444be6e5e29fb…ip/RdxIE601.cab
Hi :)

The thing with ActiveX items is, that if you remove them and you later visit the site again, they will just come back. That's why, when I'm unsure about one of them, I fix them with HijackThis. It doesn't do any harm ;) You can leave those first two items alone, but here is some info for the last item: http://www.castlecops.com/atxlist-8.html.

Could you kindly give the exact website addresses for the first two items? This is to ensure they are not bad, and to add them to the database.
Combofix disclaimer did not appear this time, but the program uninstalled successfully.

Also, I meant to mention from my experience on running Combofix on Saturday, that Combofix doesn't seem to execute when Kaspersky is running. Also, my screensaver hung it up, also.

I see that removing some of those other items will get rid of those annoying emails :)

Hi :)

That's looking good, although you apparently missed a HijackThis entry to fix:

O16 - DPF: {A0EAC162-A012-4AD8-B2E1-D5A0BBBCDA51} (PopupSh Control) - http://209.190.5.106/display/PopupSh.ocx

For the military time problem, please try these steps:

1. Click "My Computer"
2. Open the Control Panel.
3. Select Time Options.
3a. Classic View: Open Regional and Language Options.
3b. Category View: Date, Time, Language and Regional Options.
4. Click "Change the format of numbers, dates, and times".
5. Select the "Regional Options" tab.
6. Next to the box that shows your selected language click "Customize".
7. Click the "Time" tab.
8. In the "Time Format" box enter:
8a. Standard Format: "h:mm:ss:tt"
8b. Military Format: "HH:mm:ss"

Let me know if it worked.
Oooops, my bad! Went back and deleted that last little rascal through Hijack this, reran it and he is gone ^_^ I found the time settings not under date/time, but regional options in the control panel…..got it fixed just fine  Simon, I would really like to thank you for your help - you have been wonderful! Also, I have learned some new things! Looks like IEdefender has really been keeping everyone busy the last couple of days. I appreciate your contributions and that of the other members and moderators that run this forum - you all are doing a good thing! :)
BTW, I also clicked on the link in your signature "How did I get infected in the first place?" I'll work on getting some of those article suggestions implemented. :)
  • Hi,

      • Click Properties
      • Click the System Restore tab

      • Click Properties
      • Click the System Restore tab
      • Uncheck Turn off System Restore

  • Update your Anti-Virus Software - It is very imprtant that you update your Anti-Virus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your Anti-Virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  • Use a Firewall - A firewall is very important for the security of your computer. The Windows Firewall which comes with Service Pack 2 does not monitor outgoing connections, so any malware can 'phone home' without you knowing it. For an article on firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

  • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://update.microsoft.com/ regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
  • Stand Up and Be Counted!
