hi, local machine is xp Pro, domain is win 2k,
recently - this machine will no longer load a users roaming profile from the server. All users get an error msg telling them that
Windows can not copy file ………
the same user CAN log in properly from any other machine. I have also tried to erase a users local profile, then try to login again. Same problem.
any and all help would be great.
how are you deleting the local profile?
i ASSUME that the machine has connectivity to the server correct?
what if the user logs on (and get's the failure message) then logs off (not restarts) and logs back on?
thanks for the reply DSenette,
delprof for the profiles, and nope, it doesnt matter whatever you do as far as loggin in/out. The roaming profile will not be loaded/ therefore not saved back to server. nor local machine.
Really as if the id is being switched or impersonated.
and yes, the network is there and we connect to it. basic shares are still active, but obviously without the authentication, user(s) dont have rights to do much.
still checking here……..
try a different delete method
restart the computer and log on as either the domain admin or the local admin..right click on my computer then choose properties…then the "advanced" tab…then click settings in the user section….highlight the user and choose delete
Fixed.
For those who run into this problem in the future…….
I checked the %Systemroot%\Debug\UserMode\Userenv.log and found a few messages and errors.
Windows doesn't always show a message that is dead on with the problem, (in this case… something to do with user impersonated…) I looked a bit deeper.
also had error 32 showing. error 32 means file is being used by another process
ended up that one of the antivirus programs had locked files that it shouldn't have. I guess one of them being the locally stored copy of the roaming profiles. (any local profile for that matter)
So I uninstalled the antivirus and anti spyware we had installed and presto. all is good.
Note: even Spybot didnt report on anything locking or using anything that seemed to matter.
