Hi,

I have three (maybe more) problems on my laptop. 1) I have a redirect program executing on my PC in the web browser (Firefox). I google something and when I select from the list I get redirected by shedalight. If I hit back and select it two more times I can usually get the page after this, but it is a royal pain. 2) When ever I start a program, my computer freezes for a while 2 - 4 miutes will go by before the computer responds at all. Something is killing the CPU for that time. 3) I have Ad-Aware and I use to run it regularly but a little hile ago it started to freeze on my computer. I now run it and it freezes at 9441 objects scanned, i.e. CLSID\{5B76534C-3ACC-3D52-AA61-D788B134ABE2} I don't understand this.
I a virus program running, Mcafee, I have spy bot on my computer, and a firewall, so I'm not sure how all this got on my PC.
Anyway I'm going to post my Hijackthis scan for help, please.
Thanks,
Bill

bharris3,

Welcome to the forum, you do have some issues going on, lets take care of this one first.

Your computer has been hijacked by the lovely people in the Ukraine, you are infected with Wareout.

85.255.112.200 - 85.255.127.255
Inhoster hosting company
OOO Inhoster, Poltavskij Shliax 24, Kharkiv, 61000, Ukraine

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
FixWareout Subratam
FixWareout Lonny
  • Save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Click Next, then Install,
  • Then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Save the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt and post it into your next reply.

Now lets check some settings on your system. For (2000/XP) Only)
  • Go to Start > control panel.
  • If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
  • Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
  • Left click on properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems

  • Next Go start> Run type cmd and hit OK
  • Type in ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
  • Type exit hit enter

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

I need to see the Wareout Log and a New HJT log please
I have followed your instructions to the letter. Here are the reports you requested.

Thanks you for helping me,

Bill
Hello Bill :)

It looks like Wareout was the main issue and running the fix took care of it

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

This looks like this is a company computer, correct me if I am wrong, so if your administrator set these then leave them be otherwise fix them with HJT.

You seem to have a lot of IBM software installed, do you know what this is??
C:\Program Files\ACS\DPA\ACSDPA.exe

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.
*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

How is your system running now????
Ken. You are right this is a company computer (however our support is not very good). Those 5 files have to stay, but I don't think that is a problem. The system is running great, but I have one more question. I have the Ad-Aware program which I have used quite a bit in the past (and still do on my other computer) however when I run it now it gets stuck. It gets stuck at CLSID\{5CA9971B-2DC3-3BC8-847A-5E6D15CBB16E} It runs to this point and then just stops. I've left it up for several hours (maybe even overnight once) and it doesn't move. I've deleted the software, got a new copy from the internet and it still does the same thing. It use to run on this computer, but it stopped (and I don't know what actions I was doing at the time). At this point I'm curious as to why it just stops. But the hijack is out of the system which is very nice. Thanks, Bill
Bill,

I have seen this happen on my own computer and some others with Ad Aware, I believe its a bug in the software, you can try running it in Safemode or if it still wont run uninstall it and I am providing links to other free programs to help keep you more secure.

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard

Malware Complaints
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give
you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads
(cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and
painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Glad we could help.

Safe Surfn
Ken
Ken, I appreciate the help. I actually have installed several of the software that you mentioned. I have been using Firefox for about 6 years. I have SPYBOT and I already have a firewall. And I even used SPYWARE BLASTER. So you ask why was my computer infected? Well probably imprudent surfing. I consider this to be resolved (now I just have to figure out how to mark it as such). Thanks a lot, Bill
Glad things are well Bill, open Spybot and go to Help> About and make sure you have version 1.5, and dont forget the immunize feature. I will leave this thread open for you for a few days in case you have any other questions and then I will close it. Stay well, Ken
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
