Hi All,

My friend told me I had an unseemly number of processes running, and I agree. I currently have 40-50 at any time, so he recommended HijackThis. I know enough about to computers, to know that I know absoloutely nothing about what this program is telling me. Also, I have the Belarc Advisor installed, if you need more detailed system information. I have a Dell Dimension E521, running Windows XP, on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual, Core Processor 4000+ 2.1 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM. Next is the log.

Thanks In Advance,

Matt

P.S. Reason I am doing all this, is that comp has been freezing for no reason, out of the blue. I ran a Restore Point, and put the computer way back about 3 weeks, to before a driver install, and it is still freezing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.P.S. I have noticed that it is freezing, usually when running multiple Firefox tabs, as well as either itunes or quicktime, or when I have a high processing power intensive programs running.

Hi Matt M,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi Tomk,

Thanks for taking the time to look at my logs. Here are the updated logs and Malwarebytes information.

Also, regarding how my computer is running, when I turned it on to reply to this, I logged in, opened firefox and probably 5 tabs, and it froze and I had to restart. This seems to be the main problem, freezing for no reason…And I can't think of anything that may have caused it. I also have ran the programs Advanced System Care 3 and installed a new anti-virus, Avast! before coming to you guys. I also, between this post and my first post, have upgraded to WIndows XP Service Pack 3. Although it seems to be longer between freezes since the upgrade, they are still happening.

Thanks Again,

Matt M.

Hi Tomk,

Attached is the Kaspersky log. Also, had to run it multiple times, the first couple times froze while running it. Closed some processes, and left it alone and it ran through it.

Matt M,

  • Click Start, then Settings, then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, Remove Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
  • Do the same for: Java™ 6 Update 7
    PartyPokerNet
    .
Then please let me have a new HijackThis log.
Tomk,

I uninstalled both the Java programs, however when trying to uninstall Party Poker it stopped and does not seem to want to uninstall any more. (I have attached a screenshot.) Because of this, I have run HijackThis twice. Once with the stalled program running, and the 2nd time after I have used the task manager to end the uninstall.exe process.

Matt M,

We will take care of it this way:

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):
    • O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
      O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.net - {F4430FE8-2638-42e5-B849-800749B94EED} - E:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net\PartyPokerNet\RunPF.exe

      O15 - Trusted Zone: gpl.download.free.fr
  • Close all programs except for HijackThis.
  • Click on Fix checked
  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Then let me know how it's running. If things are good, I've got a couple cleanup things for you to do and we will be done.

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Files
    E:\Program Files\PartyGaming.Net

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
Tomk,

Following is the log. So far, I haven't had it freeze again, since i've run that final program (And i've been trying to do things that froze it before, so hopefully that got it.) Edit: Scratch that, managed to freeze it again, only thing I was running was 3 tabs in firefox.

Thanks,

Matt M

Matt M, The windows update program was running on your computer. It will do that until the updates are installed. Sometimes this process can really drag the system down. Now that it's not running, how is your system working?
So far so good! Hasn't stalled for a while. Hopefully that resolves the issue! I will try to push the system hard tomorrow, and then will let you know if anything happens. Thanks, Matt M
