I posted in the Hijack forum but maybe it would be better served here as I am fairly certain it is not Malware or Spyware causing the issue. So sorry for posting twice but I could not figure out how to move my original post to this forum (i did try). I am more convinced it is a some program that is running in start up that is the issue. One thing that concerns me is when I ran MSCONFIG to manually shut down processes that are not needed I found a blank line with a check box. There is nothing on the line just a check box to not load the program. (see attached JPG) Has anyone else seen this with IBM or any other computer? The computer is new and had AntiSpyware and Virus protection since original boot. In addition, I just upgraded from 1GB RAM to 4GB of RAM today to speed things up a bit (all the problems happened before and after the RAM upgrade) however, when I view the properties under My Computer it only shows 3GB. When I view the RAM in the BIOS it shows 4GB, when I view it in the IBM system tools scan it shows 2GB?!? Is this just a limitation of the system or do I have a setting to change for this amount of RAM.
The system has several bugs including: 1) System will hang on boot up intermittenly 2) Applications will hang with no specific application affected 3) Internet Explorer hangs everyday, again intermittenly, once IE is shut down and restarted it works fine. 4) Slow boot time and shut down
I know my way around a computer, but at this point I am stumped. I do know that the dozens of Lenovo apps it preloaded with is not helping my performance but this laptop is slower than my previous 4 year old Dell Latitude P.O.S. This does not compute, this Thinkpad has an Intel ® Core™2 Duo CPU T7300 @2.00Ghz / 1.99Ghz, with 4GB of RAM.

Hi The Gibster,
Welcome to WTT Forums,
As you apparently recognize, we do not analyze or fix HJT Logs here in Hardware Forums.
Don't worry about it though, we'll simply wait until Malware Team reviews and recommends regarding your HJT Log over in the Malware Removal Forum.
I've Edit your post to cause your HJT Log to appear as an Attached File.
______________
For the time being, you need not worry about the BLANK Line in your MSCONFIG - StartUps.
Because:
There is no item Name
And there is no COMMAND path
So it is just harmless junk cluttering your StartUp List — with a "Nothing"
We can give you instructions for removing it via Registry later.
But first, please wait to complete any work indicated by Malware Team.
We will be pleased to assist you if you continue to have difficulties after your Malware Removal work is declared clean.
__________
Note: I agree with you that the "trial-ware" bloat that came pre-installed on your machine may be significantly involved in your current problem.
But again, please do not make any changes to your System, prior to concluding your Malware Forum work.
__________
As to your RAM issue, there are a variety of factors that can influence this.
Again, we can work on correcting it, after the Malware Forum work is complete.
Best Regards
Same computer, same specs, old problems!! I CAN HELP.. I had the same problems and i did a lot of work to fix them. here are a few things to do to help you. Download all windows updates, and use lenovo's system update http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss…-UPDATE.html#hp to install your drivers and windows fixes. After that here is the resolution to your main problem. go to this lenovo address http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss…ocid=MIGR-64133, download and install those windows hotfixes. You can read what each one does and if you notice there is a patch that is meant to fix the problem with dual core speed on windows xp. Xp dosnt manage dual cores all to well and this patch fixes that. Once i installed that patch along with all the other windows updates, it was like night and day. Hope this helps, it did for me, let me know how it turns out!
Oh i forgot a few things. About that check box that is blank, i believe that is a service that is for either your active protection (hdd air bag) or your power management. Why it is blank i have no idea but it is safe and you should leave it checked. I am working on the shutdown issues as we speak and i have come to another confict this time its with lenovo system update and the power management driver. Those 2 might have something to do with the hang you experience.
