Hi,
sorry for the delay but I have to go working!
For your system restore problem, please do the next:
Click \start\run\then type in or paste in
sfc /scannow <– the space between c and / is needed!!!!
Let me know if it has worked.
Near the end of Scannow I got prompted several times to insert Windows cds (which I dont have), so I canceled out, backed-up my stuff, and re-installed Windows which is stored in the HD. Seems to be back to normal, except for the m2v (mpeg2) problem. That seems to be specific to brand-name retail movie dvds, not homemade on a dvd recorder or cheapo retail-movie dvd's, so it's possible I always had this problem and didn't know it.
Discovered it was AVG antispyware was causing some webpages not to load completely. My video problem has to do with video that's flagged as 24 fps rather than 30 fps.
The computer seems back to normal, incl. System Restore. I read that that function might not be changeable if you're desktop display is set to look as "Windows Classic." I'd already reinstalled Windows before I could check out that possibility.
Thanks for all your help, Rosty.
