Using Wndows XP Media Center with SP2. Using Spybot, Spywareblaster, and Spywareguard (is the last one any good?).
Computer acted funny, then cleared up and just really slow (off and online) after I got the recent Firefox update 2007 update. My Windows System Restore doesn't work at all, so I couldn't go back. I ran a free scan of XoftSpy which reported many possible infections and at least one trojan (but the free version doesn't make fixes). Then ran a free Registryfix scan which reported lots of anomilies, but that free version only makes a few corrections. Computer is running alittle faster now.
Thanks for any help.

Hi again,

Please download DrWeb-CureIt & save it to your desktop.

COLOR=blue]Scan with DrWeb-CureIt as follows:
  • Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program. An "Express Scan of your PC" notice will appear.
  • Under "Start the Express Scan Now", Click "OK" to start. This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan tab" and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis"
  • Back at the main window, click "Select drives" (a red dot will show which drives have been chosen)
  • Then click the "Start/Stop Scanning" button (green arrow on the right) and the scan will start.
  • When done, a message will be displayed at the bottom advising if any viruses were found.
  • Click "Yes to all" if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can see the icon next to the files found. If so, click it, then click the next icon right below and select "Move incurable".
(This will move it to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if it can't be cured)
  • Next, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list.
  • Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  • Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)and a new HijackThis log
I ran Adaware after I posted my Hijackthis log (before I got your reply to use Drwebcure). I apologize if this screws up the before-and-after picture of the two Hijack logs.

Hi,

no worries about the scan you've done. ;)

Download Combofix to your desktop.
In case you already used Combofix previously, please delete the version you are having and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
Rosty, thanks for your help so far. If it turns out there's no malware to blame, can you direct me to someone/place that can help with my two problems? Very slow computer, and some kind of mpeg2 playback problem.
Here are the Combo and Hijackthis logs.

Your log looks clean.
Do you have any problems?
Please let me know.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - You should disable and enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:
Windows XP System Restore Guide.

Please read this link Slow Computer.
Hi Rosty, thanks for all your help. Do you have any advice about what antiSpyware I should be running besides what I mentioned in my OP? I have Adaware and AVG now, too. At least 3 problems: 1). Still can't access System Restore. Previous error message was that a point couldn't be manually created. Also none were listed (made automatically), so there was nothing to restore to. Now I can't even access that window, getting instead "System cannot protect the computer, etc." I am logged in as Adminstrator, and all the info windows says System Restore is enabled on automatic. Previously tried re-installing the sr file in the !386 folder, but no change. Maybe that's corrupted? 2). The computer is still really slow. I did disable all active protection to prevent antispyware conflict. I followed that SLOW COMPUTER link but I'm not sure what programs should not be started at Start Up. Also this problem happened suddenly, so I don't think it was an accumulation of programs adding to the Start Up. 3). My video problem isn't really addressed in that Apple link. Mpeg2 Video plays too fast in two situations: if I'm using demuxed A/V in an editing program or player, and with the whole Audio/Video file in programs that only play the Video-portion in their preview windows (like ifoedit, vobedit, etc). The latter situation isn't a problem since it's just a preview window, but I mention it as a symptom. I can't use some editing programs or mux A/V in some editing programs because of this issue. The whole AV will play fine in playing ware, and demuxed audio seems to play fine such as in the A/V editing program Mpeg2chnitt which uses demuxed A/V. Just the video will play too fast.
Hi, For your problem with the slow Computer, I've seen you've got a lot of entries at startup!! Next entries are not required to startup when you start your pc, so you may fix them in HijackThis: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SigmatelSysTrayApp] stsystra.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\isuspm.exe" -startup O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dvd43] C:\Program Files\dvd43\dvd43_tray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxpers] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PhotoShow Deluxe Media Manager] C:\PROGRA~1\Ahead\Ahead\data\Xtras\mssysmgr.exe O4 - Global Startup: dlbcserv.lnk = C:\Program Files\Dell Photo Printer 720\dlbcserv.exe O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe I will do some research on your other problems. I'll keep you posted.
Hi, how exactly do I disable the start-up for those items in Hijackthis? Just check the boxes after a scan? I'm nervous about deleting something. Startuplite didn't have all the items you mentioned, so I'll wait to hear how I use Hijackthis. I have a Dell computer, and downloaded their trialware called PC Check-up, to see if it would improve things. I'm not sure if it did this but websites aren't completely loading - for example, there's no gray border around this page any more. Some internet option setting I need to reset?

Hi,

Yes, just check the boxes after a scan and click Fix Checked.

Just place a check next to the ones you find.
I checked off most of what you indicated. It's running faster, at the moment, though the onscreen cursor is jumpy. Given the combination of problems (Windows, video, etc), I'm wondering if I should backup my stuff, and re-install Windows (which is hidden on the HD somewhere)? The only major problem I have with that is having to go back and fiddle with the BIOS settings so the dvd drives work again.
