When searching on google or yahoo i get a jump/redirect to varied sites with an occasional screen asking for a verification code to enter. Use ADAWARE 2007, AVG 7.5, Zonealarm and Spybot S&D. Spybot finds the topic title and is fixed and then reappears on the next test. Spybot SD finds the trojan and fixes but reappears on subsequent tests.

  • Hello, and welcome to the forum.

My name is Simon V., and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.
I am currently looking over your log. As I am a trainee, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Thank you for your assistance. I also have SuperAntispyware on my computer. noticed the issue a couple weeks ago and am concerned about the whole redirect to international charges I have heard about. So far no arbitrary charges on my At&T phone/dsl bill. I am somewhat of a computer novice so please be patient. Thanks

  • Hi :)

Do you recognize Freedom Networks LLC as your internet provider?

    Make an Uninstall List
  • To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1. Start HijackThis
    2. Click on the Config button
    3. Click on the Misc Tools button
    4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
    5. Click on the Save list... button and save the file to a convenient location. When you press Save, Notepad will open with the contents of that file.

    FixWareout
  • You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
  • Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
    http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe
  • Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) along with the Uninstall List and a new Hijackthis log.

  • Hi :)

  • When this infection is present, Spybot changes some setting to your system. If you haven't set the following lines to change your DNS server, please open HijackThis, perform a system scan and put a check next to them:

Hello Fixed the HiJackThis items. Trying to download the Kaspersky program, keep getting a dialog box stating "002E08D9.key" on (unknown) file is needed. Security setting is set to medium as stated in the Kaspersky download instructions. Wants me to browse to locate this file. As a novice, I'm not sure what to do or where to go. Thanks Simon

  • Hi :)

I thought Kaspersky would’ve fixed that issue by now, apparently they didn’t. Try this scan instead:

    Online Virusscan - Panda
  • Please go to Panda's Online Virusscan and perform a full system scan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
  • A new window will open. Click the Check Now button.
  • Enter your Country.
  • Enter your State/Province.
  • Enter your E-mail Address and click Send.
  • Select either Home User or Company.
  • Click the big Scan Now button.
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it.
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes).
  • When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
  • When the scan is complete, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post that report here, along with a new HijackThis log and tell me how everything is working.

  • Hi :)

    Prevention
  • Congratulations, your log looks clean. Please advise of any problems you are still experiencing, or follow these simple steps to keep your computer clean in the future:
    • Delete Tools - You can now delete the following files/folders:
      • C:\fixwareout\ and Fixwareout.exe
    • Disable and Enable System Restore - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
      • Turn off System Restore.
      • On the desktop, right-click My Computer
      • Click Properties
      • Click the System Restore tab
      • Check Turn off System Restore
      • Click Apply, and then click OK
      • Reboot.
      • Turn on System Restore.
      • On the desktop, right-click My Computer
      • Click Properties
      • Click the System Restore tab
      • Uncheck Turn off System Restore
      • Click Apply, and then click OK
NOTE: only do this ONCE, NOT on a regular basis!
    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab.
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt.
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable.

      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your Anti-Virus Software - It is very imprtant that you update your Anti-Virus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your Anti-Virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://update.microsoft.com/ regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. An article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
  • Stand Up and Be Counted!

Please take the time to tell us what you would like to be done about the people who are behind all the problems you have had. Hi :) SmitfraudFix should be deleted. All the other applications you listed are excellent scanners to ensure your computer stays clean. Happy surfing and stay safe! :wavey: Simon
