Please help! I have run spybot, adaware, AVG and still cannot solve this problem and it seems to be getting worse. Whenever I click on a link in google search, and sometimes from other webpages too, I get redirected to some other search page (varies). Here is my hijackthis log... Thank you in advance for any help you can give...

Hey kalilea,
I do not recommend that you have more than one antivirus product installed and running on your computer at a time.
The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other antivirus products to create "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection.
In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause false alarms - when the antivirus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. Also it can cause system performance problems; your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to Add/Remove in the Control Panel and remove either AVG or Avast!.

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{62515EB2-82DE-47E6-8F31-E0318D3D8241}: NameServer = 85.255.115.6,85.255.112.20
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{80CE3CD8-0090-4BF1-A8FD-1B74813D6391}: NameServer = 85.255.115.6,85.255.112.20

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.115.6 85.255.112.20

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Go to Control Panel. - If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category. If you are in Classic View, go to the next step .
Double-click the Network Connections icon
Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties.
Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
Be sure Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected.
OK your way out.

Go to Start > Run and type in cmd
Click OK.
This will open a command prompt.
Type or copy and paste the following line in the command window:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit Enter
Exit the command window

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingc.../Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the Desktop loads save the text that will open (report.txt), and post it in your next reply.

Please post me back report.txt along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello again,
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

You're using an outdated version of Java (latest one is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6). Please update and remove the older versions. Do the following:
Go to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
Select it and click Remove.
Then download and install the newest version from here:
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.r...tzip/RdxIE2.cab

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Let's clean out your temporary internet files:
Close all open windows before we start.
Go to Start | Control Panel | Internet Options | General.
Click the Delete Cookies button.
Next to it, click the Delete Files button.
When prompted, place a check in: 'Delete all offline content', click OK

If you have Firefox installed, we need to clean out these temporary files as well:
Go to Tools | Options.
Click Privacy.
Press the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to finish, before closing it.
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

Now we'll clean other temporary files and your Recycle Bin:
Go to Start | Run | type: cleanmgr | OK.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure 'Temporary Files', 'Temporary Internet Files', and 'Recycle Bin' are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Reboot into Normal Mode again.

Please run Panda's ActiveScan.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open, click the Check Now button.
Enter your personal details.
Click the big Scan Now button.
It will ask to install various content - please allow this.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan, which may take a while.
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan.
When the scan completes, click the See Report button.
Click Save Report and save the file to your Desktop, so you can post this log in your next reply.

Please post me back the Panda log, and a new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello there,
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

Please download ATF Cleaner. Don't run it yet.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.

Set your system to show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Next, please find and delete the following files/folders (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\warnhp.html <--File
C:\fixwareout <--Folder

Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
Note: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click "No" at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
Note: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click "No" at the prompt.

Click Exit on the main menu to close the program.

Reboot into Normal Mode again.

In your next post, let me know how things are running now.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles, I just printed your last set of instructions. Just to let you know, I have to go out in a bit so I won't be able to work on the computer until this evening. Looks like (hopefully) things will be better soon. Thank you so much! Thank goodness for generous people like you and others on this site. I will let you know how it goes.

Hey,
Reboot into Safe Mode and delete this file, using my previous instructions if necessary:
C:\WINDOWS\warnhp.html

Great job! Now that you're free from malware, please follow these simple steps to decrease the likelihood of getting re-infected again:

Set your system to not show all files.
Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
Check: Hide file extensions for known file types
Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.
Either enable 'Automatic Updates' under Start | Control Panel | Automatic Updates, or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:
Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.
Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.
SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.
Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place
If you feel that you still have some malware problems, please let me know and I'll try my best to sort them out for you.
Thanks and happy computing,
Charles

Sorry to interfere but are ALL the 017 Hijack This entries BAD? Is it only advised to remove the ones you indicated and not all? Can they be safely deleted from the Registry if they are the only files deleted? Thank you I think I have fixed my pc from your instructions.

All of the O17s in this particular log were bad, but not all that HJT will detect are bad. Fixing legitimate O17s can ruin your internet connection, so I would suggest you start a new topic in our HJT logs forum and post a log for an expert to help you out with.
