Hi Kathy Why dont you have your friend start a new thread here? Or you do it for her? You would need to be quick off the mark though as Im going away from Friday to Tuesday to a place where the Internet hasnt reached as yet.
Hi, Scotty! [external image: Posted Image]
That would be great if I could work with you! [external image: Posted Image] ( That's what you meant, right?) I hope that your trip is for fun. I haven't left the US since I was a child.
How do I start a new thread here? [external image: Posted Image] I feel silly asking that but I can't recall what I did before. Her PC is very slow even though she has DSL. I'm sure it's completely buggy. I'm going to walk to her house and try to figure out how to post it under "Slow and Buggy". [external image: Posted Image]

Hi, Scotty! :) I thought I'd repost this in case it got lost (because of the other subject): I typed in combofix /u at Start>Run. Although I do still have ComboFix, I got a message that Window could not find "combofix". :wavey: Kathy
Hello.

Just do it maually. Remove the icon/folder from the Desktop then click on My Computer, and then the C Drive icon. Delete these folders. (if they are present)

Combofix, Qoobox

Ill redo my All-Clean so you dont miss anything.

This is my usual speech for when you are clean, which you appear to be.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore.

It's also a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:
  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.
This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Re hide your system files To do so, please follow the steps below:
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Put a check by "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Do not show hidden files and folders."
  • Check "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here are some free programs I recommend, although you will not need them all.

Spybot Search and Destroy
Download it from here . Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
