Awesome homepages took over my home page. I tried to change it back to my preferred home page ( my.juno) in my internet options but every time I rebooted my home page would revert to awesome homepage. I ran spybot and ad aware but the problem persists. Here's my HijackThis logfile:

Hi! Welcome to the Tom Coyote forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 (or applicable key to your system) key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
Hello, Scotty!
Thank you for reopening my thread! I'm very sorry that I wasn't back sooner. After I followed your instructions, I checked and this site:

http://awesomehomepage.com/newsletter.php?list=flashfunpages

is still coming up as my preferred start page when I reboot. I change the settings before going online so that it won't get a hit from me.
Following is my new hijack log and sdfix report. Thank you for helping me again! ^_^

Post back with the Combofix log, the AVG report and a new HijackThis log, please. And remember to follow my instructions in the order given.
Hi, Scotty! :D

I couldn't find anything labeled " report " in the "AVG anti-spyware 7.5" folder but I found "logfile- Notepad", here is that:

[8/31/2007 9:07:40 AM] application start was blocked because of several instances
[8/31/2007 9:08:55 AM] synchronize database and filecache
[8/31/2007 9:48:40 AM] application start was blocked because of several instances

I was wondering if perhaps I should have shut off the anti virus? It did find things, though because items were quarantined.
Here is the ComboFix log:

Thank you, Scotty! :weee:

:wavey: Kathy
Hi, Scotty! :D Guess what? I believe it's gone. I'm going to check again later but I think it's really gone! I'm off to the beach right now. If it is gone, does that mean I won't be able to talk with you again until I have more staus? I'm planning on apllying for the classes. I'll write again tonight after the pc's been off for awhile. Thank you! :wavey: Kathy
Hope you enjoy the beach. And if you sign up Im sure we'll meet up through the other rooms that aren't visible to you right now. Before you go though, I need to make sure Ive gotten everything.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

      + Extended(If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:

      + Scan Archives
      + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Hi, Scotty! :D I went to the Kaspersky site and it said there that I needed Explorer 6.0 or higher so I tried to find out what I have but it wasn't on the properties. How can I find out which version I have? A balloon popped up saying that I don't have an anti-virus program but I thought that I did. Can you tell from the log if I do? If I don't, what should I download? I can get McAfee through Comcast for free, I believe. My friend Lisa's computer is very buggy. Can I log on from her pc to try to fix it? Lots of questions today! The beach was fantastic!!! The water wasn't too cold and the waves were so much fun! It's the end of summer so I've tried to squeeze as much of it in as I can. I'm very brown and salty right now and it's wonderful! I hope that your day was atleast as fun as mine today! You are in Scotland, correct? I'm in the U.S.A. and tomorrow is Labor Day so I'm going to go prepare food, marinades for a barbeque. I'll talk to you soon! :wavey: Kathy
Hi, Scotty! :weee: About the balloons: another one pops up as well. It goes something like this: I boot up, my screen comes on, a balloon pops up saying that my computer may be at risk because the firewall is off. I check Windows Security Center and it shows the firewall as on or off. I mess around with it, trying to turn the firewall on if it supposedly is off, eventually I X out of it. Then shortly after, another balloon pops up saying that either I don't have an anti-virus program or it is turned off (Symantic Antivirus). So maybe I do have that; I thought that I did. These situations and messages come up in various combinations. At this moment Windows Security Center says that Firewall, Automatic Updates and Virus Protection are all ON. Do you think it's more malware? Have you encountered this? :wavey: Kathy
Hi Kathy

You have Internet explorer 6 and Symantec/Norton anti-virus. I have come across this situation recently, so Ill need to read up a bit. In the meantime

Download F-Secure Blacklight (fsbl.exe) to the desktop from here.

Open it and click Accept Agreement.
Click Scan.
After the scan is complete, click Next, then Exit.
It will create a log on the desktop named fsbl-xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan)
Save the log to your desktop. Paste the log in your next reply.
