Hello,

I'm using a Dell e1405 laptop.

This is the first time it get hijacked and I don't know what's causing those annoying poppups all the time.

Welcome back to the forums. I knew I recognized the name.

Umm...nope. You've been here before. Worst part is you have the SAME INFECTION! Trustin Adware.

Let's clean it up again.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Reboot, post a new log and let me know if the Hijack is fixed. You gotta figure out how you keep getting infected with the same adware garbage. Even the best AV in the world isn't going to stop some of this stuff if you allow it.

We will probably have some more cleanup to do but this should at least get you started.

Hello, and thank you for your help once again.

When I said it was my first time, I'm sorry for not specifying... I meant with my laptop.

The first time I got infected, it was with my desktop computer. This time it's my laptop and I hope I'll learn to keep my pc clean from now on.

Anyway, I just did what you asked and below is my HJT logfile.

By the way, there hasn't been a popup yet and my browser hasn't redirected me to a different page yet.

I'll let you know if it happens, but still by looking at the file below, I'm sure you'll know if there's any more work that needs to get done.

The first time I got infected, it was with my desktop computer. This time it's my laptop and I hope I'll learn to keep my pc clean from now on.

Ahhh...got ya. Ya it's the same thing your desktop was infected with. That Trustin adware garbage. Don't know where you're getting it but keep an eye out for it. It may come "bundled" with something else.

HJT looks clean. A couple of things to do though.

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.

Use ATF Cleaner to remove temp files,
cookies, cache, ect...

Since I don't see any Antispyware programs let's do an AVG scan and see what is found.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from Here and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

• Once you have downloaded AVG anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
  and double-click it to launch the set up program.
• Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition
  files.
• On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
• Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
  progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
  the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
  select "Delete".
• Under "Reports" Select "Do not automatically generate reports"

AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file.
Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

• If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
• Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
• Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon,
  some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
• Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
• Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
• Login on your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode:

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware, and run a full scan.

• IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
  programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
• Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
• Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
  then click on "Complete System Scan".
• AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
  time.
  Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
  actions"
• Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
• Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
  screen and save it as a text file on your Desktop (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).

Close AVG Anti-Spyware and Reboot in Normal Mode.

Hey buddy,

Sorry it took me so long to do my homework.

Anyway, I tried running the AVG in Safe Mode as you suggested, but the problem is that when I enter my laptop in safemode, the screen resolution automatically changes to the lowest possible, which is something silly like 640 X 520 or something like that.

No matter how much I changed the settings, I couldn't get any higher reslution.

So when I ran the AVG, I couldn't see all the options after the scan completed.

I couldn't click on "Apply all actions" because it was greyed out and I think that below that or maybe to the left of that was the option I needed to check on inorder to make it clickable, but since the resolution didn't allow me to see much, I just had to exit safe mode and get into regular mode.

Once I was in regular mode, I had to do the whole scan again.

It found all the same things that it had found in safe mode and I set it to "quarentine" all the adware it found.

Most of the items say "high" risk, some say "medium". What do you recommend, should I click on "delete finally" so that it deletes all that from the PC? Or is it safe to keep them "quarantined"?

Hi Jim, Looks good from here. That happens in Safe Mode sometimes depending on the monitor. It's normal for it to set it to the lowest resolution as it only loads basic VGA drivers for the video. But it sounds like you ran it OK in Normal Mode, which is find too. You can go ahead and delete everything if it's running OK now. How is it running at this point?

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which may be infected anyway).

Click Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Select Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start>Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

In addition to updating and using what you currently have you may want to consider the following:

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

IESpy-Ad will block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. Instructions for set up and use can be found at the website.

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.
