I run Windows XP. I am having the problem with internet explorer 7. I also have webroot spysweeper. Within the last few days, webroot suddenly says that I have no infection from cookies or anything. Up to then, I've always had over a dozen things (usually cookies) that needed to be quarintened. Now, when I get on Internet Explorer 7, when I try to go to a site after a couple of clicks I'm redirected to a Dell Google site. I have a Dell computer but I don't have it as the Home page that I'm using. In addition, I downloaded Safari from apple and there is no redirecting when I go to a website with that browser. I have PC-Cillin Internet Security as well. I will post my log below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy Johnny46,

Welcome to Tom Coyote. Right off I need to ask you not start additional new request threads - leads to confusion and possible duplication of effort. There is one remnant of a likely undesirable infection toolbar showing here. Let's start by checking what is installed then work from there.

Open Hijackthis.
Click Config - Misc Tools - Open Uninstall Manager.
A list of the entries in Add/Remove programs will appear.
Click on Save List…
The list will be saved as 'Uninstall_list.txt'
Copy & Paste the contents back here for review.

Also Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here. You can use separate posts here if needed.
Here is the HJT list below. I'll post the other in another post to you. Truth is Johnny46 you very likely will want to be de-Delling your system, as Dell does install many of it's own and third party softwares as an added means of making profit. I can see here the URL Assistant installed, which is likely at the heart of this, but then along with that is Dell's SearchAssist, which is really MyWay search hijacking, and even Viewpoint Media Player, which is often the only way that software can get an install spot on people's systems. Just misusing HijackThis here to remove registry entries related to these is not going to help, since they will be returned at reboot or some future time. I am not as versed in IE7 tweaks, and can truly see your best solution here would be to place a new request at our Other Computer Problems forum, and ask for guidance on the removal of Dell software and changing IE7's default page url search and other Options settings the right way. HijackThis is not an uninstall-type tool, but you can use this list you created as a guide for others to assist you.
Here is the log from silentrunnings: I will copy below.

I really don't One more thing. When I went looking for the Silent runnings start-up, I noticed something else that I haven't downloaded in my documents file. I looked at Properties, but couldn't find anything that said it went with either HJT or Silent Runnings. Do you have any idea what this is? Well, I can't find it now. It was a folder that was named with a large amount of numers and possible some letters mixed in. It was not something that I would have named for sure. I'll keep looking.
No need to repost the same log quoted like that. As I said , you really would benefit from working with folks removing this Dell software.

You can for now Close Internet Explorer and all running programs and run a scan in HijackThis. Place a check next to all of the following lines, then select “Fix Checked” and close HijackThis. This may correct that Dell redirect you are concerned about.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Page_URL = www.google.com/ig/dell?hl=en&client=dell-usuk&channel=us&ibd=6060927

But you still need to review with others removal of things like:

SearchAssist
URL Assistant
Viewpoint Media Player
WildTangent Web Driver

And these are not necessarily issues related to malware, which is the task I am here to perform with folks. So it is best to post that new request at our other forum where smart folks can assist in what you do need.
