Hi, Everytime I turn on my computer it begins download stuff like Trojan.Vundo as logged in my symantec anitvirus auto-protect. But the Symantec Antivirus just cant fix the problem. And everytime I open Internet Explorer there are pop-ups and prompt like windows which when I close created more pop-ups. Please help.

Hello GYCstars and welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately, one or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan, and there are 2 identified password stealing trojans. And yes, I would say that Vundo is present also but we cannot see it (see note below).

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.

NOTE:If you do want to proceed with the fix please do the following:

I need you to rename Hijackthis because I suspect that you may have the Vundo infection that can hide some entries in your log.

• Please go to the folder where you saved Hijackthis.exe:
• Right-click on it, then select Rename.
• Name it something like: FindVundo.exe (or whatever you want)
• Then double-click the renamed HJT to scan and then post the new logfile.

Okay. Thank you ! I will try to re-format and re-install. But I have two internal hard drives do I have to reformat both of them? And I used a external hard drive to store stuff will it be infected?

Yes, the safest move is to wipe everything clean. But you can and should safely save personal documents, pictures, music, email info., ect...before doing so. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

I reinstalled everything seems to be okay. But when I finish reinstalling windows my speaker no longer work. I tried to use the Cds I got with my computer but none of them work. This is a old computer and the company I got it from already closed down. My speakers are from FuturePower. I have no idea what is wrong. Although this is not a malware problem can you please help me?

You need to re-install the drivers for your soundcard, or onboard sound. Check out this link for some instructions.

To help keep this new install clean here are some suggestions.

• SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
• SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
• IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

You should also have a good firewall. Here are 2 free ones available for personal use:

• Kerio Personal Firewall
• ZoneAlarm

and a good antivirus (these are also free for personal use):

• AVG Anti-Virus
• Avast Home Edition

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit

monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners

• Spybot Search & Destroy

weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
