I'm pretty decent with keeping my computer free from malicious software (despite the fact that I don't have an active anti-virus program installed), so I decided to download HJT and see what it had to offer. As I was going through what it had found, I understood most of it but was a little concerned with the O18 lines since there seems to be an abnormal amount of them, hehe. I'm not in any rush, nor should this be a top priority thing, it's just something I was hoping for extra help on. Even though it's all from Logitech, I'm still wondering about it. So, here's my log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 11:11:04 PM, on 8/1/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvraidservice.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LVCOMSX.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\Video\LogiTray.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\ATIDtct.EXE C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\RemCtrl\ATIRW.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\CLI.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\KHAL\KHALMNPR.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\Program Files\Logitech\Video\FxSvr2.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\unsecapp.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Hello Silvos

Those 018's are nothing to worry about. Ive no idea why the Logitech software does that, but it put me off installing the CD when I got my keyboard and mouse. Everything works fine without it. Unless it is slowing down your computer, I wouldnt worry about it.

While you are here, heres a few tips on staying clean, and I do urge you to install an av.

You have no anti-virus on your computer. It is important you install one now before we continue with your fix. Check this out for a list of free AV scanners, AVG is highly recommended

A firewall helps keep attackers at bay and keeps malicious processes from 'calling home'. It is important you install one now.
Check this out for a list of free firewalls. Zone Alarm is considered the easiest to use.

I would advise updating Adobe Reader, as the latest version clears up any vulnerabilities of previous versions.
First uninstall the version you have on your computer then download and install Adobe Reader 8.1.

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u2, and click Yes at the page warning, then accept the Licence Agreement before downloading the Offline file.

I took your advice and deleted the out of date Java platforms, downloaded AVG and ZoneAlarm too. When I used the AVG scan, it came up saying ZoneAlarm was a worm (or at least parts of it). I thought it was a little strange, but they both still work. And if anything, I believe my computer is running slower than it was before :P Probably because of the resources being taken up. I'll give it a defrag and some disk cleanup. If you have any other tips on making my computer a little faster, let me know, but I am a computer science major in college, hehe. I can also post some specs if it'll help? But my computer definitely should be running faster. But, thanks for the help, it's very much appreciated.

Hi Silvos

Create a Startup List
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right"
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post

Hi silvos

Go to Start>Run then type in services.msc. Look for and disable this service Ati HotKey Poller . Do not disable the Ati Smart service, that is required.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\\NeroCheck.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechVideoRepair] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Video\ISStart.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LogitechVideoTray] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Video\LogiTray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Logitech Hardware Abstraction Layer] KHALMNPR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATIPTA] C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ATICCC] "C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\CLIStart.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LogitechSoftwareUpdate] "C:\Program Files\Logitech\Video\ManifestEngine.exe" boot
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ATI Launchpad] "C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\launchpd.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ATI DeviceDetect] C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\ATIDtct.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitTorrent] "C:\Program Files\BitTorrent\bittorrent.exe" --force_start_minimized
O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\LDMConf.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Logitech SetPoint.lnk = C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint.exe

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Those are all unnecessary or optional startups. Let me know if that speeds things up.
