[Resolved]Hijack This Log

Hello,

My GF's computer is acting strange. When she runs IE 6.0 it for the most part always freezes when it's opened (ie cannot even get to the homepage).

I have run spy-bot, and the free kaspersky virus scanner (Active Viruis Shield) and the problem still persists.

A few strange things i've noticed:

1) Her C:windows/system 32 folder does not show up in explorer, and nothing is hidden.
2) When i go to "delete temp internet files" I get an error that it cannot find a file in the system 32 folder (see above). After this error, IE 6 runs fine for about 3-4 hours then goes back to the same freezing problem.

Welcome to Tom Coyote . Sorry about the delay in responding but we are as most times just overwhelmed with logs.

We need move HJT to its own folder for backup purposes.
C:\Documents and Settings\GinaBrushey\Desktop\HijackThis.exe <– go here and right click on the icon and select CUT

C:\Program Files\Hijackthis <–Create a new folder here , open the new folder and select Paste.


Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

It sounds like your Operating System is not functioning correctly, do this.

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system, you may or may not need the Windows XP CD. If you have a I386 folder on your C:\ drive you may not need the disk.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.

Post a new HJT log and let me know if any of this helped?

Hi Ken, I tried the above and it did not help the problem. I forgot to re-do the HJT log but it's the same as above minus the two deleted entries you suggested. Any other ideas?

Your log looks fine, this is most likely a windows problem, since this forum is for the removal of malware only, I suggest you post in Other Computer Problems as they deal with issues like this.

  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
