I used SmitfraudFix to remove Brave Sentry after my computer nearly locked up due to the infection. I now can access the internet and run other programs, but random emails are being sent from my outlook and computer still runs very slow...

Hello Lamarguy21 and welcome to the TomCoyote Forums

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

Please download this file - combofix.exe by sUBs
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log.
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Regards,

Trevuren

Download
http://www.uploads.e...et/rustbfix.exe
...and save it to your desktop.

Double click on rustbfix.exe to run the tool. If a Rustock.b-infection is found, you will shortly hereafter be asked to reboot the computer. The reboot will probably take quite a while, and perhaps 2 reboots will be needed. But this will happen automatically. After the reboot 2 logfiles will open (C:\avenger.txt & C:\rustbfix\pelog.txt). Post the content of these logfiles along with a new HijackThis log.

This is an extremely bad bunch of rootkit infections, very bad. We will try the script this way first.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Drivers to unload:
pe386
msguard
lzx32
huy32
xpdt

Files to delete:
%windir%\system32\drivers\msguard.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\lzx32.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\huy32.sys
%windir%\system32\drivers\xpdt.sys

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

Regards,

Trevuren

Download Gmer
  • Disconnect from internet and close running programs.
  • There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double click gmer.exe
  • Let the gmer.sys driver load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...say Ok.
  • If no warning....
  • Click "Rootkit" tab and click "Scan"
  • Once done, click "Copy"
  • Open Notepad and hit "ctrl+v" to paste the log.
  • Reconnect to the internet and post the log back to this thread please.

This must be one nasty infection... When I run gmer it pops up a warning that says: "Warning!!! Loaded GMER"S driver is incompatible with the currently running GMER application. You need to stop the driver with the command "net stop gmer" oe restart your computer." I tried to find the driver but couldn't..I also tried to use the run command, but nothing worked. After I restarted my computer I was still unable to run the scan. Now my internet will not connect. I have access through a lap top though. Is there something else I can do to get this application to run?

Alright, we have run into something that is not typical, in fact may no have been seen before. This may even be a false positive or your system could be so damaged that essential Registry keys are missing to enable these tools to function properly.

1. The first thing I need you to do, is to uninstall Gmer. To do that, using Windows Explorer (Start then choose Explore), locate and click on the following file: Start C:\WINDOWS\gmer_uninstall.cmd. Delete

2. Reboot your system.

3. Try running GMER again using the directions previously provided.

4. Please provide me with the results of your attempt.

Good Luck,
