I tried using the SmitfraudFix as per the instructions on another site (Which scanned, then started in safe mode cleaned, etc.) But it's still here. I looked at the other thread How to Remove: Smitfraud: and it said before I continue I should post a HJT log and the rapport... so here they are: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 9:58:17 AM, on 3/8/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\CFSvcs.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\DVDRAMSV.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft LifeCam\MSCamSvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\RegSrvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\NDSTray.exe C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Windows Utilities\Hotkey.exe C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSHIBA Zooming Utility\SmoothView.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\Toshiba.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\WINDOWS\vVX3000.exe C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! Hello and sorry for the delay :(

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

You don't have a firewall on your computer. Here are free and good firewalls: (Install only one)

Comodo
OutPost
Kerio
Sygate
ZoneAlarm

Open HijackThis, Click Do a system scan only, checkmark these and press fix checked

Thanks for the help!

Followed everything to the letter, except getting an extra firewall. I have the Windows (XP SP2) built in firewall - plus my router has a very strong firewall built-in. I've always had conflicts arise by adding an extra one in... but if you think I need another I will grab one.

Edit: I haven't had any further problems so far (I was getting false alerts and pop-ups sending me to questionable sites then sending me to "spyware removal" sites), but Spybot S & D still pickups up the SmitFraud-C.Toolbar888 not sure if it's a false positive or not though.

Followed everything to the letter, except getting an extra firewall. I have the Windows (XP SP2) built in firewall - plus my router has a very strong firewall built-in. I've always had conflicts arise by adding an extra one in... but if you think I need another I will grab one.

Okay, so those are enough to you :)

Kaspersky online scanner works only with IE!

Please run an online scanner with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

    o Scan Options:

    + Scan Archives
    + Scan Mail Bases

  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Post a fresh HijackThis log and also Kaspersky's log :)
