For the last week my computer has been acting funny so I downloaded everything known to man in the hopes of finding something. Spyware Doctor did find the adware.coupons and a few other things that it said it deleted.

I noticed a few weeks ago that my recovery partition on my Hp laptop was getting full so i decided to back up all my files. Then I went on a 2 week spree of downloading everything and trying to find the culprit. The computer was running great until today when I tried to create recovery disks. Now everything is falling apart. I can't even access cntl - alt - delete, nor can I run my anti spyware programs. When I try to run msconfig it says I do not have admin rights (which I do) and I can't access my system restore any longer.

I'm running Windows xp with norton security center and slew of other things. I recently downloaded Prevx 2.0

Here is log file. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sorry to repost on my thread but wanted to add that I can't do anything in normal startup now . . only in Safe Mode with Networking. :wall: Thanks in advance for any help. It is greatly appreciated!
Sorry to keep replying to my own post but I just don't want to waste your time when my number comes up. Here is what I've done since my last post.

1) Discovered that some of my services had been changed to manual and I was getting a msconfig box coming up on regular boot saying that my start up items were changed. Also found out that my JS2 was not updating and the version was outdated. In addition, I could not run Microsoft updater and some of the programs in add/remove would not let me uninstall them. Plus my Yahoo Messenger kept logging me on/off willy nilly.

2) So . . I downloaded and ran AVG in safe mode and it found 2 threats. The Hijacker.small trace and a tracking cookie called REvsei. Of which it has quarantined and/or deleted them. I also removed and downloaded a fresh copy of Yahoo messenger.

3) I went snooping in the recovery program from HP and found out I could reinstall services etc. So I reinstalled the install shield program and also the JS2 even though it was outdated . . hoping that that would let me remove it in add/remove programs. PAY DIRT! It did. So I then installed the latest version of Java.

4) I also changed my msconfig to start up normally with all processes running and then went into each program I could to stop them from running on startup. Those that I didn't want to start I used Winpatrol to stop them from doing so . . not the msconfig. Then I went through the painstaking process of looking up all the services online to see what is the best setting for each . . manual . . automatic . . or disable and saw that quite a few system processes were set to manual when they should have been automatic.

5) Finally I tried to restart the computer and low and behold it booted right up and I might add at LIGHTENLY speed!!! I then removed all of my system restore start-up points and then created a new one right then and there. My fan has hardly come on at all and I'm amazed at how fast it is running. I'm a little nervous to do anything but . . it is working great at the point.

Sorry this has taken me so long to explain but I didn't want you to have to reinvent the wheel when looking at my first log. I have the results of my latest hijackthis file and just would like you to look over it to see if there is anything else I can do or if something was missed. I'll also post the results of the AVG scan too.

————————————————————–

There are still a couple of things in my logfile that I'm not quite sure about but didn't want to go any further until I had specific instructions. Particularly the following:

Apple Mobile Device\
Ehome
msmsgs.exe - I only use yahoo
Safenet Sentinel

Thanks again!

Thank so much!!
