Norton Av & Spysweeper Suddenly Stop Working - Please Help!

Yesterday I logged on as I normally do. Usually Spysweepr & Norton Anti-virus splash screens pop up. This time - I got error messages instead. Spysweeper told me it couldn't locate a valid definitions file. I followed the steps it told me to take to fix this, but it didn't work.

Then afterwards, Norton stopped working. I got two different errors:
A necessary file could not be loaded: PIF: AlertEng.dll
1002,1

and

Unexpected error Auto Protect
0x000003E8
3035,6

I have a small feeling my dear husband might have went to a webpage or opened an e-mail he shouldn't have. I have pasted my HJT log below. Any help is greatly appreciated!

BTW - My computer is less than 4 months old. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Spysweeper and Norton came pre-installed on it, via Circuit City.

At the present time - neither Spysweeper nor Norton AV are up & running.

OK now I'm really concerned. I just went to create an updated log of HJT. I got the following screen:

For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HiJackThis may NOT be able to fix this.

If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run and type:

notepad "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts"

and press enter. Find the line(s) HiJackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as "hosts" (with quotes), and reboot.
