[tasty mango]

ok my internet speed varies greatly from around 150kbps to 600kbps even though i am subscribed to an 8meg connection with no download limits
i was wondering if my hijack this log showed what was slowing it down

Welcome to Tom Coyote. For now that Morpheus Toolbar is the only potentially unwanted item I see here, but as Morpheus itself (the free version) brings adware with it, and is file swapping so opens those doors to infection, best if we check a bit more here. That toolbar does have an autoupdate function so in some way would maintain net access, which might impact speed, but we'll see.


Go to Start – Settings – Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on Remove. Then close the Control Panel. The toolbar should have it's own uninstaller independent of the Morpheus software already removed.

Then Make sure you can View Hidden Files. Also uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known File Types"

Do a search ( Start - Search/Find - Files or Folders) for the following hilighted folders (shown in Bold), and if found, delete them.

C:\Program Files\MorpheusBar



Go Here and download ATF cleaner. Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected (and close ATF).

If you have them, also click on Firefox/Opera at the top and repeat the steps (and close ATF). Firefox/Opera will need to be closed first for the cleaning to be effective.

Then reboot, and go here for an online AV scan (requires IE to run).

Scan "Local Disks" and when finished save the scan log and then post the log here.


Also Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here, along with the Panda log and a new HijackThis log please. You can use separate posts if needed.

Looks like Panda agreed and disinfected that Morpheus Toolbar, and the GameSpy file as well. Do you have Registry Cleaner installed (see here). Same with FunWeb products. Not really seeing more than the Morpheus issue - is there improvement now that it is removed?


Let's check all installs for now as well.


Open Hijackthis.
Click Config - Misc Tools - Open Uninstall Manager.
A list of the entries in Add/Remove programs will appear.
Click on Save List...
The list will be saved as 'Uninstall_list.txt'
Copy & Paste the contents back here for review.

There are so many reg changer softwares out there, and most half of them are more bluff than legit or necessary. Most do little more than clean out temp folders, which both Windows can do itself, to a point, and other more simple tools like ATF Cleaner as well.

The Registry Cleaner 1.0 showing as installed there, if it is the one I believe it is, falls into the wrong category, and is the one that dumps ads on unpatched XP installations through misusing Windows Messenger. This info, along with Panda identifying it's file I'd say it isn't one to keep.

As for GameSpy Arcade, if you do a search your self using the words "GameSpy Arcade adware" you will see sufficient confirmation that the info here is correct, and this too is not a keeper.


Why not uninstall these now and delete any folders/files found by the same name.


Then you need to uninsyall/remove the older Java versions as well. In Add/Remove programs uninstall these (making sure to leave the newer Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1):

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9


Then reboot after you have made all those changes and run perhaps one last Panda scan to see what files might be left to delete.
