I did a full clean install a few weeks ago and immediately the boot times started getting slow. It takes about 30-60 seconds to boot with the largest delay coming between the Windows XP screen and the desktop. Then other programs/icons take another 15-20 seconds. After boot and a few minutes, pc seems to be fine and quick (as it should).
HP Pavilion a1540n
AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual 4200+
4 GB Ram with a 1 Gig bus speed
I run Zone Alarm and AVG Spyware Scans daily, Zone Alarm antivirus daily, Windows Defender and rarely does something other than cookies show up. I also ran scans with PC Doctor that show no issues.
2 Questions:
1. Does a failing dvd burner/drive slow down boot processes?
2. Does saving all programs in a separate partition hurt or help anything? The reason I ask is this is the first time I have tried that. If I need to redo the pc just for that, it's no big deal.
Included HijackThis and SmithFraudFix logs below. If I need to redo them that's ok. Thanks for the help in advance.
