Tried Everything, Nothing Works

I decided to run the Kaspersky again. I couldn't find the file in the dell folder that was causing the trouble (I did turn all files visible and it was still not there) so I simply cut the Dell folder out of teh C drive, did the scan, and pasted it back. So the Dell folder was not scanned.
Kaspersky went on for 8+ hours and found 1 virus and 2 infected files. It also skipped a number of files. My computer is really, really bogged down. It is driving me crazy. I can't get anything done. Here is the report:

Were you able to update your drivers?
oxhorn
No, there were no relevant drivers available for download. I do not understand what it is I need to fix with my drivers. I filled in all the information the Dell site you linked for me asked for, but the drivers they found were for software that is not installed on my computer. Here is my computer information:
Dell XPS Laptop
Model No. PP09L
Service Tag: DTRY171
Express Service Code: 30098626957
I entered this information into the search field and could not find any drivers needed by my computer.
My symptoms have not yet been resolved. My computer works fine for about ten minutes, but afterwards, it hiccups and immediately begins to slow down. Last night I posted a new blog on my blog using Firefox. For the first couple of paragraphs things were fine. Then the text I would write would appear a few seconds after I typed it. By the time I finished, I had to wait thirty minutes for the computer to process my typing, and i watched as the field was slowly filled in, letter by letter.
If I am running more than one tab with IE or Firefox, my computer locks up. If I am listening to music while browsing the internet, things slow way down. If I try to watch a streaming media file or a video on my hard drive, thinks are fine for the first ten minutes or so, but then the video starts to skip, and then freezes altogether, and only the audio can be heard. If I try to close a window, folder or program in this state, it can sometimes take upwards of ten minutes to do so.
I don't know what else to do.

Hello oxhorn,
Please open your Device Manager. You will find a tree-like structure with + out beside entries. Please click the pluses to expand the entries. Do you see any icons or error markings like yellow question marks, green exclamation marks, etc. ?
Using Device Manager
You might need to be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to perform some tasks.
Device Manager provides you with information about how the hardware on your computer is installed and configured, and how the hardware interacts with your computer's programs. With Device Manager, you can update the device drivers for hardware installed on your computer, modify hardware settings, and troubleshoot problems.
To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Double-click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
oxhorn
Thank you, no, there are no yellow exclamation marks, green marks or marks of any kind. My drivers seem to be performing fine.
The Kaspersky report that I posted earlier includes 2 viruses. What should I do about them?
Susan528
The Kaspersky showed only your _restore file infected which is not a problem unless you do a restore. We clear out the restore points at the very end of working on a log. I would like to see another hijackthis log though first since it has been a few days since I have seen one. I would prefer that you install an anti-virus application first though.
Looking back at your hijackthis logs it appears that you just have the AVG anti-spyware installed and you need an anti-virus.
See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:
Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources
From looking at your results, I do not think that an infection is the cause of your problems. I think the PCPitstop results do indicate problems. I would suggest that you post your problem in the Other Computer Problems section and give them a link here to your logs.
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/Other_Computer_Problems_f83.html
Let's fix your altered Security Center registry settings now.
Open a notepad window by Clicking start -> run -> type notepad
Hit Enter
Paste in the following text in bold into the notepad window:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center" /v AntiVirusDisableNotify /t REG_DWORD /D 0 /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center" /v AntivirusOverride
Save the file to your desk top as regrestore.bat by setting the 'Save as type' to "All files".
Once saved, double-click regrestore.bat (gear icon) on your desktop.
If you are prompted “Delete the registry value AntivirusOverride” reply y for yes.
Now your Security Center settings should be back to normal.
Now go to start ->run and copy the following into the box
"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config
and click Ok
Check the main log and check the Extra Log and Security Center and Scan!
You should see an extra.txt window minimized.
Please copy the contents of the extra.txt and post(reply) with the results.
I want to verify that the Security Center settings were changed.
I am sorry that I have not been able to solve your problems.

Thanks again for your help. I actually already have both Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware. Neither program finds anything wrong with my system. I downloaded a-squared and am doing a system scan now.
I made the .bat file like you said and I ran it. I had to type Y. When I pasted "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config in my run and pressed enter, I got the following message: "Windows cannot find file "…desktop/dss.exe". Is that a problem?
I ran a new HijackThis! and I have posted it here. I'll make a post in the thread you linked me tomorrow.
Thanks again for the help!

Hello oxhorn,
Here is a free anti-virus application AVG you can install. You have the AVG anti-spyware installed, so now let's install the AVG anti-virus. Spybot and Ad-aware are good but they are not what are called anti-virus applications. Please download and install it.
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php
I am glad you ran A2.
Let's try Deckard's System Scanner again. If you happen to have it on your desktop, please delete that before you download it again.
Deckard’s System Scanner
Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Sorry for the delay, I'm trying to move into my new apartment. I let AVG anti-virus run and it found no problems. Here are the logs from DSS you asked for:

Hi Oxhorn,
Hope you like your new apartment. I do not see any malware. There were some files that threw me for a moment but they are from the MWAV scan and are not malware at all. I do hope you find out what your other problems are.
Let's fix your altered Security Center registry settings now.
Open a notepad window by Clicking start -> run -> type notepad
Hit Enter
Paste in the following text in bold into the notepad window:
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center" /v FirstRunDisabled
Save the file to your desk top as regrestore.bat by setting the 'Save as type' to "All files".
Once saved, double-click regrestore.bat (gear icon) on your desktop.
If you are prompted “Delete the registry value FirstRunDisabled” reply y for yes.
Now your Security Center settings should be back to normal.
STEP 1.

Stay up to date on security patches and be extremely wary of clicking on links and attachments that arrive unbidden in instant messages and e-mail.
"The number one thing the majority of the malicious code we're seeing now does is disable or delete anti-virus and other security software," Dunham said. "In a lot of cases, once the user clicks on that attachment, it's already too late."
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
- Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
- Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Updates regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
- Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware
- Updating Java
- Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1.
- Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
- Click the "Download" button to the right.
- Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
- The page will refresh.
- Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
- Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
- Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
- Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
- Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
- Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
- Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
- Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
- More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
